How long before I can do Military physical training after a BBL?

Question

How long after BBL can I being working out? I am military therefore I’ll have a PT test in September 2019 and would like to do the BBL beginning of this year but I’m not sure how long the recovery will be since I will have to run 1.5 miles in a certain time I have to be able to workout as soon as possible.

Thank you for your question! For my patients having a BBL procedure, I recommend taking 3 weeks off of cardio at the gym, and 6 weeks off of weight training and yoga exercises. I would advise having your surgery at least 6 weeks prior to your physical test. Best of luck!

Thanks for your question.I let my patients workout in 4 to 6 weeks, but for you to get at the level of being able to pass your test it will take some time. Please always consult with a board certified plastic surgeon.

Thanks for your question. Usually, patients can return to light activities almost immediately after surgery, normal activities 2 weeks after surgery, and vigorous exercise 4 weeks after surgery.  We usually experience a slow steady improvement for 3 months or so after surgery.

I have performed a few BBLs on patients who were active duty, but I advised them to heal completely before trying to participate in any strenuous physical activity.  As a board certified PS and bodybuilder, I advocate continued weight lifting and exercise after a BBL as long as you do not lose body fat.  I usually ask my patients to wait from 4 to 6 weeks to resume strenuous exercise, depending upon how the healing goes. Always ask your plastic surgeon about specific activities and when they can be resumed after surgery.Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

I recommend my patients to wait at least 4-6 weeks before resuming their workout rutine (cardio, lift, etc.). 
If you have any concerns, I suggest you to follow up close with your plastic surgeon.

Return to full activity after BBL is OK by six weeks. Immediately after surgery, you will gradually increase your activity levels. Running and full blown cardio is fine by six weeks but I would also consider avoiding any aggressive butt related muscle exercises until even later

Thank you for your question. Most patients resume light daily activities within a few days after surgery and return to work in 7-10 days (no heavy lifting). I would recommend waiting at least 4-6 weeks before starting strenous activities. Consult your surgeon since each surgeon has a slightly different post op protocol.

Hola murrillkm!We often see patients at my practice that are active duty military members who take leave to perform the same procedure.
The typical suggested recovery time after a BBL before performing intense physical activity is approximately 4 to 6 weeks. It is common to see a slight increase in swelling when returning to exercise so we tend to make sure our patients start slow to avoid too much too soon.
Keep your Plastic Surgeon up to date regarding your healing progress and swelling as with any surgery.
