Hi thank you for your question. They are not normally associated. It is unlikely your tummy tuck contributed to the development of a hernia in the inguinal region.Best wishes.
Thank you for your question. The risk of an inguinal hernia is the same with or without a tummy tuck performed. If you do have an inguinal hernia, it is most likely not associated with your prior surgery.
Thank you for your question. No, it's not common to have an inguinal hernia appear after a tummy tuck, but it can happen. You may have had a weakened inguinal region beforehand, and only now have a true hernia. It does not mean the abdominoplasty actually caused the hernia, and many people have inguinal hernias without a tummy tuck beforehand. I would see your original surgeon about it to discuss next steps.Best,Dr. Dan KrochmalMAE Plastic SurgeryNorthbrook, IL
Tummy Tucks have no bearing on hernias. Hernias after tuumy tuck have same incidence as hernias without tummy tuck.
Thank you for your question. Typically, no, this is not normal. It may be that you had a hernia prior to the surgery, and that you can just see it more after your procedure. Typically the incisions that are made are not *that* close to the area where you would have an inguinal hernia - but theoretically there is a potential that this can occur. However, this would be highly unlikely. I would suggest seeing your Plastic Surgeon and having him or her perform an examination. But, typically, no, this is not common.
There should be no relationship between an inguinal or "groin" hernia and a tummy tuck. The tummy tuck procedure does not involve any of the tissues or structures in the groin area. To that point, a tummy tuck also does not do anything to prevent the formation of an inguinal hernia. I would recommend evaluation by a general surgeon for treatment of your inguinal hernia if you have not already done so. Good luck.
Stretch marks occur during periods of rapid growth, which stretches the skin, AND a hormonal change. While the skin is pulled tight with a tummy tuck, there isn't usually any hormonal change that is occurring and thus NEW stretch marks will not occur.
No, it is not normal to be experiencing these symptoms. You did the correct thing by going to emergency room but since your symptoms have returned I encourage you to contact your surgeon. The fit of your compression garment needs to be checked as well as an evaluation of your complaints.
Swelling is common and expected after a tummy tuck. Swelling can last a few months, but the majority will be resolved by six to eight weeks for most patients. Yes there are things that you can do to help with swelling. The best advice is to closely follow your surgeon's post op instructions. ...
A patient cannot and should not be totally immobilized after lower body lift (LBL) surgery, so getting the skin flaps to heal and seal to the underlying tissues is critical to avoid fluid accumulation. I personally use one or two drains anteriorly (the tummy tuck area), whether it's a standard...
Thank you for your question. To reduce it, I always recommend to my patients to perform daily lymphatic drainage massage therapy over the abdomen and wear a postoperative girdle from thigh to the breasts.Kind regards,Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-
It looks like you still have fat, and may have looseness in your abdominal wall. You need to discuss with you plastic surgeon, and specifically if he/she tightened your abdominal wall. Good luck!
