The left side of my mouth curves down when I smile, likely do to uneven strength in a muscle that pulls the corner out and down, unlike the right side of my mouth, which turns up naturally. I strongly prefer the upturned right side of my smile. How do I go about changing the left side of my smile to turn up like the right side??
Answer: First your lips are beautiful. You see asymmetry but your lips have wonderful youthful beauty. The key is less is more if you decide to do lip fillers. You are asking for your lips to be sculpted. They do not teach that in medical school. Just because someone is holding a syringe, that does not make them and expert. I strongly advise you to avoid the so called smooth fillers like Juvederm, Belotero, and Restylane Silk. These products tend to drift after they are placed. Inexperienced injectors like them because they fix their own bumps but the products to not hold where placed. I prefer Restylane for this application. Look carefully for an injector for this service.

Answer: Lip Asymmetry Julia. It appears from your photos that correction of your very mild asymmetry may be accomplished with a small amount of filler like Juvederm Ultra plus placed near the corner of your mouth to lift it. If you desire, conservative Augmentation of the upper lip can also be accomplished with the same material. Check out the link below for more information about lip augmentation and fillers for asymmetry. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist. Good luck!

Answer: Lip Augmentation Thank you for your question. From your photos, you appear to be a great candidate for lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane or Juvederm. Fillers are a great non-permanent way to help improve volume and symmetry of the lips and typically results last between 6-9 months. I do not advise having more than 1 syringe injected at a time as to avoid overcorrecting. You can always add more filler later if needed. If unhappy with your results the filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. I recommend having a consultation with an expert injector to determine the best treatment plan for you. Best of Luck!
