Swelling in hands after Voluma was injected, should I be worried?

i had voluma injected into my hands wednesday afternoon. at 1am i woke up with swelling. today is sunday and i'm still swollon and red. saw the doc yesterday. she said it happened to her when her hands were done. don't worry. i'm worried.

Thank you for sharing your question.  Some swelling after filler placement is quite common and tends to improve over the first 1-2 weeks after treatment.  As long as you aren't manifesting signs of infection all is likely well and time will improve your outcome.  Hang in there.

Yes, there can be swelling after your injections, which can last 1-2 weeks. If it persists, I recommend following up with your Doctor. For best results with hand rejuvenation, I love combining fillers with fraxel laser to tighten and improve texture. Best, Dr. Emer

I would return to your treating physician for examination since redness could be a sign of infection.  Just to be on the safe side I would recommend that you return to your treating physician. I inject a great deal of hands and I prefer Restylane since it avoids this type of swelling. Best, Dr. Green

It is very normal to have redness and swelling in an area that's been injected with Voluma (or any other filler) for 7-14 days after a treatment.  If there is significant pain or if your hands feel warm to the touch, then you should be seen immediately.  However, otherwise, there is likely nothing to be worried about.
