I have not been to consult yet, in process of finding a Board Certified PS. I have heart palpitations ( had for about 6 years ) . My cardiologist says there is no worry. My heart rate can go from 89 to 120 without stress. Has a colonoscopy on 2/21 and my heart rate went to 136. I was very nervous and stressed. I plan to see Cardiologist prior to having these procedures again as well as a full medical work up.
Answer: Heart palpatations and surgery You do not indicate your age or overall health status. Your description may be consistent with episodes of supraventricular tachycardia ( SVT) . If these are infrequent and do not affect your blood pressure , they may not require intervention or preclude surgery. You should have a thorough cardiac evaluation before undergoing any anesthesia.

Answer: Heart concerns You are doing the right thing by first visiting with your cardiologist and having a full medical work up. The Mommy Makeover surgery will be considerably longer than a colonoscopy. It is important that you are cleared for surgery as your safety is always the number one priority.

Answer: Heart palpitations and multiple cosmetic surgeries Surgeries that you have in mind are very extensive and require perfectly fit patient to avoid any surprises in the course of surgery/anesthesia. For that reason cardiology clearance and recommendation is mandatory to prepare you for such extensive surgery. If needed, surgeries can be divided in stages to avoid prolonged anesthesia, blood loss, etc. Full disclosure about your condition and good cooperation between cardiologist, anesthesiologist and surgeon is mandatory for safe outcome. Good luck.

Answer: How heart palpatations may affect surgery. The number one concern is your safety. You have already done all the right things by checking with your cardiologist. The anesthesiologist for your procedure will be interested in having a letter of medical clearance from your cardiologist which may come with recommendations about how to handle rate increases during surgery. If cleared for surgery, you should be able to proceed.
