When to expect final result after mommy makeover?

Question

I am almost 5w post-op from full TT, flank lipo, BA lift w/augmentation. Healing has been going great. Incisions are all closed and just minor swelling in my lower abdomen. I do not want to buy new clothes until my figure is at it’s final result but on top of losing 8 lbs post-op, I am swimming in my old clothes. When can I expect my body to be at its final shape? Thanks.

Congratulations on your recent surgery. It sounds like you are doing very well and on course for a great recovery and result. The complete healing process for a mommy makeover is around 6-12 months. Swelling, especially in the abdomen, may last 2-3 months. With regards to exercise, etc., I release my patients of any restrictions at 8 weeks. When you see a few weeks of consistency in your body's shape and appearance, I'd say go shopping.

Considering magnitude of surgery done you seem to be doing relay well. We usually say to our patients undergoing such a surgery that first close to real results are shown between 3-6 months after surgery. Subtle swelling and shape changes due to it, very frequently related to your diet, will camouflage real result for a long time. Stable result is expected to be seen 1 year after most surgeries. Great question but really something you should be asking the Plastic Surgeon who performed your surgery.  Depending upon the type of procedures performed and to what extent, swelling can last a few weeks to a few months.  Generally, long-term results are seen around 6-8 months following this procedure but, again, this can vary.  I would consult with your surgeon and make sure that you are emphasizing a clean diet to help you heal as effectively and as optimally as possible.  What you eat really does make a difference!I hope that helps and wish you the very best!-Gregory A Buford MD FACSBoard Certified Plastic Surgeon and Author

The normal course of recovery is increased swelling for the first several days and then slow improvement.  The majority of the improvement occurs during the first month.   The final results can take up to one year.

Thank you for your question. Healing after a Mommy makeover is usually pretty straight forward.  There is a process of swelling and bruising that undergoes the first stage of major resolution in the first 2 weeks after surgery.  The lateer phase of healing takes place over the 2-3 months after surgery where everything really settles and softens.  It is after this time that we are getting close to the final result, though this varies patient to patient.  It usually takes up to 6 months to see the final results.Combination procedures can give powerful results but SAFETY is KEY.  You definitely have to choose your surgeon correctly and make sure that he/she has the training and experience to meet your goals with absolute safety.  Don’t settle for less than a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with specialized expertise in this procedure.

patient has an individual recovery process. You are still in the healing

It can take up to six months before all the swelling is completely gone from liposuction, but the worse is during the first six weeks. It can take up to six months for your implants to completely settle. Most will be fairly settled from a tummy tuck by three months. You may feel like clothes shopping at 3 months.
