Bladder prolapse surgery + tummy tuck: is there one surgery solution?

Question

My question is strictly to ask if there is such a procedure that can fix bladder prolapse/incontinence and include a tummy tuck at the same time? I feel like part of my pelvic floor issues are due to my stretched abdominal muscles and I'd like to fix both in one surgery. Does this exist? Thanks.

It is not unusual for patient's to combine a tummy tuck with a medically  necessary procedure. Just make sure ahead of time what the addition charges will be for the tummy tuck. Additional charges from the hospital or surgicenter can vary widely. Make sure you know exactly what the charges will be. You’d be surprised what the additional costs can run.

most plastic surgeons would not recommend you to get both procedures at the same time. Tummy tuck won't affect your bladder issues. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

The plication from the tummy tuck can make these issues worse as the abdominal and pelvic domains will be constricted.  This will increase pressure and the potential for further or worsening prolapse.  Fix the pelvic floor issues first and then three to six months later, schedule the TT with plication.

Sometimes medical and aesthetic procedures can be combined.  You will first need to find out specifically the issue and procedure planned to address your bladder issues to find out if it can be safely combined with a tummy tuck.  Your surgeons would need to coordinate on surgery day.  Note that insurance will only cover the medical portion of the surgery and not the tummy tuck.

The thing you need to understand and discuss with pelvic floor specialists and plastic surgeons is what will happen to your pelvic floor reconstruction in the face of the increased intraabdominal pressure caused by the muscle tightening of the tummy tuck. Increasing pressure will stress the pelvic floor and needs to be considered. The 2 surgeries should not be done simultaneously and in my case, usually the pelvic surgery is done first and I try later not to overly tighten the ab muscles.
