Thank you for your question. The tension on a tummy tuck pulls everything, including the belly button, in a vertical direction. Give it a few more months to allow for the complete result once all of the tension settles.I hope this helps.- Dr. Bryson G. Richards, MD
Thanks for the question. It is an appropriate question and one I hear often in the office. The last part of the abdominal tummy tuck to heal is the belly button. I discuss this with my patients prior to to the tummy tuck. They are aware that swelling and bruising can occur and are completely normal. In general healing can take months and the results emerge over time. Massage and good compression garment are very important.
If your bellybutton shape is still article at three months it probably is going to stay that way. The bellybutton shape is greatly influenced by the design of the plastic surgeon.
I'm sorry that you are not happy with the appearance of your belly button. the good news is that revising a narrow belly button is a pretty easy thing to do and could be done in the office under local. i'm sure that your surgeon will want to help achieve the very best result. Discuss your concerns with your surgeon.
It is difficult to offer much reassurance without seeing a photo of the navel. Expect some changes, but without an idea of what it looks like I cannot make any guess about the ultimate outcome. All the best.
Belly button swelling takes a long time greter than 6 months to change shape and develope superior hooding. I would suggest discussing this with your surgeon but it is going to take time and a revision should be delayed for up to a year. Best to you
Hi Parson,Thanks for your question-- congratulations on your tummy tuck procedure. The belly button tends to remain slightly swollen slightly longer because of the round scar. This resolves and most patients are very happy with the final result. Give the scar 6 months or more to soften and mature; if you are still not happy with the shape, then this can usually be revised in the office with some local anesthetic. Discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon in followup, so you are both in sync in terms of expectations and timing, in the event that you do want this revised. These often settle down nicely and do not require any additional treatment. Best regards,--Erik Hoy, M.D.
Belly buttons are not altered in anatomy - but during the relocation process the tension on the wound alters the way the tummy button looks. The tummy button is a natural scar and the final scar from a tummy tuck takes 6 months to lead to its final result. Keep in touch with your PS for reassurance.
Thanks for your question. I would advise you to give this a little more time to completely heal. If after 6 months you are still unhappy with the results, you should discuss this concern with your physician. A revision may be in order in the future. Best of luck.
Hello, Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, you have been misinformed. There is 'cutting" of the muscle during a Tummy Tuck. The tightening or suturing that is performed is a positive manoeuvre due to two things:1- It helps you achieve a flatter tummy because the muscle is...
I am sure you are frustrated. When things don't work out, this is unfortunate. I believe you had an infection. You describe this as months to heal and the stitches coming out. Also other procedures didn't do this. This means we have a good chance of the revision "working well!"Scar revisions...
Your description sounds like an area of fat necrosis. Once things have settled down, the lumps can be excised. Discuss this matter further with your surgeon. Best wishes.
