Dysport for crows feet restricting smile. When will it start to wear off?

I recently had 5 units of Dysport on each side of my crows feet. 1 week in and my smile looks very strange and restricted, causing my cheeks to bunch up and wrinkle- almost clown like. Impossible to smile all the way due to tightness I feel in my checks now, and it’s completley changed my smile. Will the Dysport start to wear off sooner than the avg. 3-4 months since the dose was lower than normal?

Hi Milo, neuromodulator results take up to 1-2 weeks and last up to 3-4 months in new areas of treatment. Botox / Dysport / Xeomin can be softened with Venus Legacy and Thermage treatments. If your smile and the tightness you're feeling doesn't improve after another week, I would follow up with your physician -- or get a formal evaluation with a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist. Thank you for your question. I recommend waiting until the two-week mark to see your full result. If you are still unhappy with the outcome at that time, you can schedule a follow-up with your injector. However, there is no way to reverse the effects of a neuromodulator like Dysport. The effects typically wear off in 3-4 months, although that can vary from person to person. As the muscle begins to regain normal activity, you should start to see some improvement. Always work with an experienced injector who has the expertise and precision to produce the best results.

Unfortunately, Dysport injections cannot be reversed. The good news is, the results of Dysport are not permanent. It will wear off on its own within 3-4 months.

Sounds like the dysport was either improperly injected or migrated to involve the nearby muscles of your smile. 5 units is a very small dose so you may notice this improve within the next 6-8 weeks. Make sure you are under the care of an experienced physician. Best wishes.

I'm sorry to hear of the issues you are experiencing from your Dysport treatment.  The product result is in full effect after two weeks and the effects typically wear off gradually over 3 to 4 months.  I encourage you to discuss your concerns with your injector if you do not notice improvement.

Dysport typically lasts 3 - 5 months. 5 units of dysport is very little and it is unusual to see such a strong effect from that amount. Be sure to confirm with your doctor that it was 5 units of dysport (not botox), but overall the results should last just as long as usual, no matter how many units you got.

The nice thing about Dysport and other neurotoxins is that they will eventually wear off. This is especially nice in your situation since you do not like the results. Lower amounts do tend to wear off faster than more units of neurotoxin. Hope that helps. Good luck on your next treatment

3-4 months represents the average amount of time for Dysport to wear off so there is a chance you naturally metabolize it faster especially because it was such a small dose.  Additionally, your muscles will regain strength gradually as the Dysport wears off, so you will begin to see your range of motion increase as time goes along.  I would recommend waiting 2 weeks to see the full results of the Dysport before scheduling a follow up visit with your provider to go over your results.

Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin lock the release of a chemical called acetylcholine, which triggers the muscle contractions that create wrinkles. Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin essentially paralyze the muscles and stops them from contracting. Results from these treatments are visible within 3-7 days with results that can last anywhere from 3-4 months. Follow up with your injector at 2 weeks should you have any questions or concerns.
