My routine is compression garment and epifoam pads over all the suctioned areas for 3 days, then shower and replace. Use for up to three weeks. I find that there is virtually no bruising under the pads. At the edge where the pad ends there is swelling and underneath it is smooth and flat. This seems very advantageous to me and I have used it for years.I have never recommended or used boards and do not see why they would do any more thana flexible compression garment over the high-quality Biodermis epifoam. The picture shows how nicely they work after extensive lipo to prevent bruising and swelling.
Dear Nice0710,ab boards/back boards are usually used to reduce swelling and promote healing after liposuction. Some plastic surgeons use it others don't. Every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MD
Thank you for your question! For my patients having liposuction, I recommend they wear the foam we provide, under their compression garments for the first 3 weeks, 24/7, then an additional 3 weeks at night only. The purpose of the foam is to keep the areas of liposuction smooth and adds additional compression to the surgical sites. I recommend discussing specific post surgical instructions with your plastic surgeon. Best of luck!
Swelling and healing as well as scar maturation can persist for 6 months and sometimes up to 1 year following liposuction. PSs have different post-operative protocols based upon their experience and training; some recommend adjustable garments; others, body boards and foam. I recommend following your PS's advice for the best recovery.
Nice0710 Short answer is no. Each surgeon has their own protocol for patient recovery after liposuction and usually most of us recommend some sort of an elastic garment to be worn at all times for the first 2 to 4 weeks after surgery. This allow quicker recovery from swelling and assists skin contraction. Uncomfortable back and abdominal boards are really unnecessary. Be certain to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon in our area. Good luck.
