When can I start playing soccer after rhinoplasty?

It all depends on the extent of the rhinoplasty. What did the surgeon see when he/she was in there? Did they do extensive septum, turbinate, and bone work? Did they do extensive tip work? Best to take the advise of your surgeon's office before starting on an exercise regimen. We usually tell our patients at each visit what their restrictions are. We tell them, (at the appropriate time),to start slowly and then progress from there. Also, don't be frustrated if you lost endurance, or gains in lifting. It will take a while to get back to where you were. Please do talk with your surgeon and get a plan, so together you are on the same page.

That's a common question. I tell my
patients that they can go to the gym as soon as the splint comes off (usually 5
to 7 days after surgery), and play soccer or other contact sports at 6 weeks. I
have operated on several professional athletes including a soccer player and have
given them the same advice. Although the nasal bone is not completely healed at
6 weeks, it is pretty well fixed in place. Different surgeons will have
different instructions, and it is best to follow your own surgeon's

6-8 weeks  is a good time frame to involve and contact sports after a rhinoplasty.  Any earlier the nasal bones are still not completely healed and can get hurt easier.These are recommendations in an ideal world.  In a practical world it is usually possible to resume soccer within 3 weeks after surgery.RegardsDr. J

When to resume strenuous exercise can vary amongst practitioners. The most important answer depends upon what your surgeon recommends for you. I generally advise waiting 4 weeks after surgery before resuming strenuous activities, so you should be fine at this point. It may be safer to wait 6-8 weeks with soccer because you could be hit in the face with the ball. Try not to hit your nose directly. Good luck!

I ask my patient to stay away from strenuous activity for three weeks. This increases blood flow to the nose and may precipitate bleeding. The swelling will resolve faster with some rest as well. A soccer ball hitting a nose after surgery is not a good thing. At least 6 weeks for that...

You should ask your surgeon. It depends on the maneuvers performed. If you had osteotomies to adjust the position of the bones, then the downtime from sports like soccer is longer.  Your surgeon should be the one to give you specific advice as only your surgeon knows what was done in your operation.Best of luck with your healing.

I usually allow patients to go back to light aerobics within about 3-4 weeks and then vigorous working out by about 6-8 weeks. Best to check with your surgeon.

We suggest avoiding any sports that have the risk of blunt trauma for one month after surgery. So, soccer is out! Lifting and other such strenuous activity is also risky this early.  I suggest waiting about 3 weeks until doing heavy lifting.
