Is green mucus always a sign of an infection?

Green mucus is a sign that there is an accumulation of neutrophils, a type of cell involved in your immune response, within your mucus. This can be a sign that you are fighting an infection (doesn't have to be bacterial), but is not always the case. There are a number of reasons why people can have increased mucus production (allergies, upper respiratory infections, nasal irritants, smoking, etc.) and if any of these processes are long-standing in nature, you may develop thicker, colored mucus. A simple remedy can involve the use of nasal saline sprays or rinses (I recommend NeilMed Sinus Rinse) to clear the mucus from your nasal passages. Hope this helps!

It is not always a sign of infection. The fact that you have had two rhinoplasty specialists examine you and declare you "clean" should reassure you. Let it go unless you develop other symptoms.
