You should follow the instructions provided by your surgeon.  I instruct my patients to wear the compression garment for at least 2 days straight then they can take it off to go out and about but to reapply it when at home and definitely at night for the next 5 days.

Thanks for the question.  I would follow your surgeon's post-op instructions, as we are all different in our post-op care routines.  This time period of wearing the strap is critical for having the skin "stick" to the deeper tissues where the fat has been removed so that you heal with a good distribution of your skin over your fat and muscle (rather than it falling into the midline position).  Good luck!

So ideally not for a couple of weeks at least. We want the layer of skin and platysma muscle to stick together to prevent swelling and unevenness and as soon as the two stick together then the sooner you will start to appreciate your result. You can take it off to shower but other than that I would say 2 weeks is the very minimum. Hope that helps. Adam Goodwin

Removing the strap for a brief shower is acceptable but for best results disciplined near constant wear within the first several days is imperative.

Please contact your doctor to ask him or her what their protocol is.
It would be inappropriate for any of us to tell you if it's acceptable or not to remove your chinstrap.
I will however, tell you with my protocol is.
First of all I do not wrapped ahead with gauze but use A post cervical compression garment.
I asked my patients to wear it continuously for the first few days though it's acceptable to take it off for a few hours if you're going out or taking a shower etc.
After that they can where it while they're sleeping or while they're home.
Most patients don't have all that much swelling or bruising and after chin or neck liposuction.
My personal opinion is that compression garments are not nearly as important as they're made out to be.
That said, you should always follow your own doctor's instructions.
Most physicians provide some type of postoperative instructions to the patients.
