How much difference can an alar base reduction do? (Photo)

Alar base reductions are generally pretty subtle if less than 3 mm is reduced. Various techniques exist, depending on whether width or flare is most important to reduce. Some techniques can reduce 8-10mm, which is often excessive. I find the magic number to be in the 5-7 range if dramatic changes are needed.

With good surgical technique, you could have an outstanding result. The photo you included is an illustration, so keep in mind that it's easy to draw a result but more challenging to achieve it on a person. Most of the difference occurs close to the cheek, and not quite so much at the rest of the rim. People with a nose that looks like that in the illustration don't generally need this procedure anyway. Consider what the effect would be on a really wide nose which is more likely to make a patient want the procedure.
