I recently got an alar base reduction 2 days ago (appearantly there should be no swelling involved with this procedure) and my nose is clearly bigger (the tip is rounder) and the base is even wider than it was before the surgery.. How is that even possible? It seems like all the surgery did is make my nose flatter and reduce the projection while making it even wider. Shouls I be worrying? What can be done? The picture on the left is right before, the other 2 are today. Thank you!
Answer: Rhinoplasty Thank you for your question, Dominic26. you are in the very very early stages of your recovery. You should not evaluate your results but instead monitor your healing process. For example, notice how your swelling - which is causing this increase in base size - subsides over the next few days. I suggest you consult with your board certified facial plastic surgeon to ensure they remain up to date with your recovery process.Best wishes,

Answer: 2 days post op, some advices: Thank you very much for this interesting question.Swelling time after a rhinoplasty depends of the surgery complexity (Ex.: Rhinoplasty with nasal controled nasal bones fracture (osteotomy) will have greater inflammation than one in which only the nasal tip treatment). But, generally the nasal swelling Post-op It can last from two weeks to two months. To reduce this swelling, I recommend you perform delicates daily lymphatic drainage massage therapy over the face (around the nose) avoid sun exposure, and take pain/inflamation pills, as your surgeron precribe you.Kind regards, Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-

Answer: Surgery and swelling Swelling is quite common after surgery in and around the treated areas. Best to give it time to heal and settle down.

Answer: My nose is wider and my tip is bulbous after alar base reduction. What can be done? At just two days post alar base reduction, both your ala and your nasal tip will be swollen. It will take a minimum of 12 weeks for the swelling to subside and in some cases it can take up to a year to see the final result. I would not suggest any surgical revision for one year. Although an alar base reduction will not make a nasal tip larger, the tip can sometimes look more bulbous in comparison to the smaller, narrower, alar bases. A tip rhinoplasty to reduce the tip could be considered, but you should wait a year before making this decision. As the swelling subsides you may decide it is not necessary. Best wishes, Dr. Lepore.
