How strong are internal sutures after a face and neck lift and how do they work?

I want a face/neck lift -- several surgeons told me that I am a candidate. But I am prone to anxiety about undermining results during recovery. My 1st nose job was botched when I was 15. I will follow EVERY instruction but sometimes we can still be thoughtless and stretch, strain, or end up sleeping funny (even if we intend to stay on the back). I hear after 2 weeks is the "safe zone" but how worried should I be by any slip-ups before then? Are internal sutures stronger than I realize?

A facelift involves repositioning the underlying structures into a more youthful position. Sutures are used to support this repositioning while scar tissue forms to ultimately keep things in place. Most sutures used are dissolvable and last about 3 months. That said, the first 7-10 days are the most important and by 4 weeks scar tissue becomes the primary support .

Hello. There is no position you should avoid or restrict yourself after your facelift surgery. Surely we dont want you put any pressure on stitched area. but as naturally you wont be sleeping on your face due to awareness of surgery. Don't bother with this. Just keep your seams clean and free of germs, that's all.

It's very rare for patients to break the internal stitches, holding the SMAS and facial muscles together. If you have a very strong and dynamic platysma muscle in your neck, such as an athlete, then consider Botox placement in the anterior platysma bands one week prior to the surgery
