I have read the posts on this & they all say I should wait until I reach my goal weight to have the procedure. But would this apply to me? I am only 19. The reason I have sagging is because when I was 15, I gained 70 pds in 6 mo. (125pds to almost 200). I have fluctuated 40 pds since then (I've gotten down to 137) & have seen no change in my breasts. I am the same height (5'6.5'') &now weigh 180 &would like to lose 55 pds, 1pd a wk. Would it be safe to have the surgery before I lose the weight?
Answer: Can I lose weight after a breast lift without it effecting my procedure? Thank you for your question. The procedure of breast lift improves the shape of the breast by retightening the skin and reshaping the breast on the basis of the skin laxity and volume you have at that specific moment in time.Should you first have surgery and then lose weight, this might affect the overall amount of tissue of your breast and therefore some degree of ptosis / laxity may recur.I therefore always advice my patients to first achieve the weight they wish and that they are comfortable in maintaining and only then to proceed with surgery.I hope my advice helps. All the best.Andrea Marando

Answer: It's a risk... You may be right. Your breasts may not fluctuate much with additional weight loss. But there could be some significant consequences. I'm sure that we all have anecdotal cases where someone lost weight after a breast surgery and it significantly impacted their results. However, there are other benefits to losing the weight before surgery. The overall risks are lower when you are closer to your target weight. It will reduce the chance of wound healing complications as well as allow you to get up and moving easier after surgery. If you were my patient, I would certainly recommend that you wait. But I also wouldn't deny you surgery if you wanted to go forward. It's just a risk that you may have to assume on your own. Good luck!

Answer: Will weight loss after Breast lift affect the outcome? Although I know you want to hear that a 50lb weight loss after Breast lift will not affect the long term outcome, unfortunately the odds are that it will. So, in an ideal world, if you knew with 100% certainly that you were going to lose that 55 lbs and keep it off, then you should wait til you reach your goal weight. The reality may however be closer to fact that your weight may continue to fluctuate for the rest of your life. I suggest you go see an experience, board certified plastic surgeon and openly discuss your weight loss plans and formulate a plan for the best course of action. You are young and anxious to improve the appearance of your breasts. Thus is a common scenario that I hear often. It requires an honest look at the the "big picture" and an open discussion about the pros and cons of proceeding with surgery sooner than later. Good luck!

Answer: Weight Loss and Breast Surgery The breasts consist of both glandular tissue that makes milk when pregnant and fatty tissue that fills out the remaining volume of the breast. As the weight changes so does the fullness of the fatty portion of the breast. Research has shown that the precentage that body weight changes is also the percentage that the breast changes. So if there is a significant weight loss there will be a significant decrease in breast volume resulting in "deflation" of the breasts. The deflation will result in a less attractive appearance. It it is best to postpone a breast lift or reduction until one is pretty close to the final weight. In that way the surgery will get you the best long term results. Best wishes!
