Is traveling to another country for Rhinoplasty straightforward?

Not sure............... If you travel abroad for any cosmetic surgery you take risks that you would otherwise not assume if you had it done here. In the hands of the best trained plastic surgeon, complications can occur. If the complications occur as aresult of a procedure performed in another country, you will nee to travel back to that surgeon in that country. MOst, if not all, surgeons here would be unwilling to take care of a complication, not of their own doing , but performed in another country. Good Luck.

We treat a lot of patients from out of state and out of country. Post-operative care is crucial in this process, and staying at least 2 weeks in town after surgery is recommended. I strongly recommend seeking a qualified Board Certified PS with great experience in Rhinoplasty who utilizes closed technique.

It is not uncommon for a patient to travel to another country to have a surgical procedure performed, such as rhinoplasty.  The patient must plan this in advance though to determine how long the surgeon wants the patient to stay before leaving.  There may be a splint or sutures that need to be removed after rhinoplasty.  You should discuss the timing of your stay with your surgeon.  

It is anything but straightforward, unless you have lived in that country in the past and you are confident in obtaining the best medical care. The success of Medical Tourism Surgery depends on 1. Surgical operation 2. Post op care 3. Local environment with regards to infection. In the US, you are guaranteed of all 3 by virtue of well qualified Plastic Surgeons who practice state of the art medicine. In another country, the onus is on you choose the right one.

Traveling to another country for rhinoplasty can be problematic if not handled properly. One of the issues is if you develop a postoperative complication and cannot travel back to your original surgeon. This creates a problem because you have to followup with a local surgeon who will not know what you had done during your procedure and this can complicate the treatment. Also, part of ensuring a good result after rhinoplasty is consistent and adequate followup to monitor the nose for changes and address them accordingly. Traveling for rhinoplasty is certainly done, but use caution and consider a local option. Best of luck.

We regularly see patients from other states and even other countries.  Appropriate follow-up can sometimes be a concern and should be planned in advance.  A local plastic surgeon, or even another local physician, can often follow up for suture removal, etc.  It depends on the procedure and the amount of follow up required.

Hi Cindy! It is not uncommon for patients to travel to the US for their cosmetic procedures and in my practice, I have frequently seen patients from other countries. Coordinating a surgery from another country involves careful planning on the part of the patient and their plastic surgeon. We typically try to coordinate the surgical procedures so that the patient has their initial consultation as soon as they arrive in town and the surgical procedure will be performed shortly thereafter. I also advise patients to remain in town for a minimum amount of time following their surgical procedure (usually 1 - 2 weeks) in order to ensure that the patient is healing properly and to minimize the chance of complications once the patient returns home. In our practice, we see patient's from around the United States  and from foreign countries, We ask patients to stay in town for 10 days after the procedure. Based on  our experience for over 25 years, we do not recommend  patients  go outside of the United States for the rhinoplasty procedure. The reason for this is that rhinoplasty is the hardest operation to perform the entire field of cosmetic surgery, so is important to get it done right the first time by a very experienced rhinoplasty surgeon for best results. Shop quality, not price since this is your face and you will be wearing  your new nose for a long time

I can't quite tell what you are asking, Cindy.  If it is do I see patients from out of the country for surgery - yes all the time, but I insist they stay in the country for 2 weeks after surgery to be sure there are no problems.  If you are asking if I see patients who have surgery out of the country and come to me with a problem or for aftercare, I do, but the cost is very high.  Sometimes cheap can be very expensive if there is a problem.

From reading ALL your previous postings I would venture to say having an out of country rhinoplasty with cartilage grafts would be very risky in your case...
