Are fajas and foam required to have good results?

The compression garment and the length of wear varies with the PS so follow the post-operative protocol guidance provided by your PS. 
My patients typically wear a properly fitted adjustable compression garment (no fajas or foam) for six weeks; but follow-ups, phone calls, and emails provide feedback regarding the extension of this time.
I prefer adjustable garments with multiple bands so that tension can be adjusted and the areas of liposuction are less likely to get a fluid collection.   The key here is the size and the ability to tighten the garment not the brand or make.

Thank you for your question! The purpose of post surgical garments is to help decrease swelling and maintain contour to the surgical areas. I advise my patients to wear the surgical garments I provide for 3 weeks  24/7, starting immediately after surgery, then an additional 3 weeks at night only. I recommend consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon and discussing specific post surgical recommendations. Best of luck!

Thank you for your question.  I recommend all my patients to wear a tight compression garment after surgery.  It will help with swelling and help reduce fluid build up.  During a tummy tuck I don't require foam to be worn but I do require it when doing lipo on the abdomen area.  I originally start a patient off in an abdominal binder after a tummy tuck and about a few days later I have them get into a faja.   I would follow your surgeons recommendations.  Best of luck to you. 

Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  I do not think they are required, but some foam application to the site of liposuction can help minimize swelling and bruising.  I do advocate for all patients that a well-fitted compression garment is used for at least 6 weeks after surgery.  Hope this helps.

Compression is helpful after surgery. It helps to manage swelling and support tissues as they heal. Your surgeon will discuss what type of compression is recommended for you and how long to wear it. I advise my tummy tuck patients to use compression garments for three to four weeks after surgery, but this can vary based on the patient's circumstance.

Please contact your plastic surgeon. Each of us has their own post operative protocol for compression to maximize our own results based on the surgery performed. I would defer to your physician.

In our practice a compression garment is put on right after surgery and pur patients need to wear a second stage garment for 3 months. Compression is very important it will help with the swelling and discomfort. If you have any concerns please consult your surgeon. Best of luck! 

Hi and thank you for your question.  Since each surgeon has their own specific protocols I would recommend that you defer to your operating Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for advice on this topic.  With that said, compression garments are often recommended post-operatively to help reduce post-operative swelling and provide comfort and compression.  Many surgeons do recommend the use of foam to aid in this effort, but again each surgeon has their own protocol based on their training and experience.  These compression garments are often worn close to 24 hours/day for the first 4-6 weeks, whereas the foam is often only used for the first few days post-op.  Please discuss this with your PS.  I hope that this helps!  

Hi. Each surgeon follows a protocol. My patients get the faja right in the OR, and they must use it for 6 weeks during the day only, and of course an epifoam to protect the flap (between the faja and the skin). Fajas are use to prevent or limit the edema during the first 6 weeks, and this is very important.International Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS)

I do think that they help make a difference. I only use foam for about one week, and it really makes a difference in the amount of bruising. After that I have my patients where the full compression garment for about another month and then just for comfort after that. It really depends also upon the amount and type of Liposuction done.
