I am 5 weeks post op full TT with Lipo in flanks. 1 week after surgery my incision opened due to an infection and I’m a Little concerned with my PS healing methods. I live 2 hours away so we do things through email. Now my incision has healed on one side and the other side has opened more and deeper. It has slough and is yellow in color and my PS is now telling me to use peroxide inside wound to remove the dead tissue. I thought peroxide was never to be used on open wound? Will this close it?
Answer: Wound after tummy tuck I recommend that you see your plastic surgeon in person right away. I believe he should remove the non-viable tissue (called debridement) and show you how he would like you to perform dressing changes. I personally prefer dry gauze and would avoid peroxide. Good luck.

Answer: Will peroxide help remove slough in open incision after tummy tuck? (Photos) Thank you for sharing your excellent question and I am sorry to hear of your healing difficulties. At times, when an infection sets into a wound, it will get worse before it gets better. I do not see that your infection is still active, so local wound care alone should help you heal over the next several weeks. I typically advocate wet to dry dressing changes with normal saline alone but some physicians can recommend a dilute concentration of bleach, acetic acid, or hydrogen peroxide to their patients. I would speak in greater detail with your surgeon as they can offer you the best advice.

Answer: Tummy tuck wound sorry your having a wound healing issue. It looks ok and will heal up appropriately over time assuming you perform good local wound care. While I do not recommend peroxide it can be helpful to debride if concerned with bacteria. Work with your surgeon for best results.Best

Answer: Open wound after a TT Dear Lissorn25, your wound has opened up in several areas due to infection or other causes but it doesn't seem to be infected now since there's no redness in the adjacent skin. What you call yellow slough is dead tissue that needs to be removed to allow healing. I normally achieve that with debridment which means removing the non viable or dead tissue mechanically with scissors and forceps. Don't worry, dead tissue has no feeling, it won't hurt! Then I would use a topical agent such as silvadene to allow healthy tissue grow protected from infection. Sometimes when on silvadene the wound will naturally clean itself without debridment but the debridment speed things up a lot. You may be able to heal your open wounds without the need for further surgery this way. I know you live far from your doctor but a few visits could make a big difference. I have a lot of patients that live a few hours away but once we get the wound clean the visits will become less frequent.

Answer: Will peroxide help remove slough. Wound care after your tummy tuck is best handled by your surgeon. Specifics such as office cleaning or debridement to successfully close your wound are part of the responsibility your surgeon has taken on and will be more than ready to help you through your situation.
