Septal Spur: How long is recovery? What happens to the area where the spur was? How long do the nerves affected take to recover?

I had a large septal spur removed. I had developed Sluder's Neuroglia because of the spur. i still have pain in the left side of my face, facial rednesss and pain over my sinuses. I also had a turbinate reduction. It seems to have affected my trigeminal nerve as well.

After septoplasty or removal of septum tissue, you may have discomfort inside your nose, or referred pain to your cheek and teeth for quite some time. It could be several months, but it is difficult to say without an in person examination. Additionally, nerves take a while to regenerate which may result in increased sensitivity in this area.

Hopefully you can visit and discuss these concerns with your surgeon. He or she may prescribe some numbing agents, or medications for neuropathic pain.

There are several different definitions and types of septal spurs. The common one is a boney spur or protuberance, can have some cartilage with it, on the inferior posterior septum, part of the vomer. Because it's in the airway, it usually causes nasal obstruction. Removing it can improve nasal breathing. Rarely it can cause pain and usually this improves with time eg. Months.
