The wound will likely not heal on its own and you may need to have the implant removed totally. Hello, thank you for your question. The debate between smooth and textured implants has been recently ignited by the media and some new findings. The bottom line is: we don’t know everything about the debate yet. Textured implant surfaces have pros and cons. Advantages include: less chance of capsular contracture, less malposition over time. They also have the disadvantage of being associated with ALCL. The risk we believe to be 1:50,000-1:80,000. That’s 0.002%. I believe Sientra specifically has a lower incidence than the other companies, however there are fewer Sientra implants out there since it’s a newer brand. If you are going above the muscle, which I assume from your lifestyle would be part of the discussion, textured implants may be a reasonable option for you. Above the muscle has a higher capsular contracture rate and textured implants may help prevent that in your specific case. You and your surgeon should understand the risks, and if he is comfortable offering both choices. Best, Dr. Chang

Find a surgeon you feel comfortable expressing your concerns with openly. Based on your anatomy, you look like a great candidate for rhinoplasty, given that you are in good health standing for surgery.
