Dear marvymarla, every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
It would be best to check with your surgeon since their advice may differ from what is provided by others. Your surgeon is also more familiar with your particular situation.
You can check with your primary care, doctor, however, I have never heard of sumatriptan being a contraindication prior to surgery. It’s more important that you relieve yourself of your migraines and get good rest prior to your surgery and after your surgery. Best wishes.
While it is likely okay for you to take this medication five days prior to your surgery the best person to ask is your surgeon. She/He should be aware of all medications you are taking including prescription, over the counter and supplements. Your surgeon will inform you which are okay to continue and which need to be stopped prior to surgery.
After surgery:In the postoperative period, you will be allowed to lie in a position we call the V position, so that the tension that will occur in your surgical area will be tried to be reduced. This position is the position where your body is raised by 45 degrees from your waist. From time to time, you are allowed to break your legs and bring them closer to your torso, and at the same time, from the waist, to make your torso lying down. You are asked to move your legs frequently from the first hours after the surgery. After the surgery, an abdominal corset that grasps your abdomen will be applied. This corset, whose pressure can be adjusted, is used to contribute to the immobility of your surgery area and preventing swelling. You are not allowed to eat anything in the first hours after the surgery. Usually the first nutrition is with liquid foods. After being able to remove the gas comfortably, soft foods are fed. In the first weeks after the surgery, you should usually increase the number of meals and keep the amount limited, and avoid gas-forming foods. The first day after the surgery is the most troublesome period. In order for you to have this period more comfortably, painkillers and sleep-causing drugs are used from time to time. The first few days may have swelling and pain in the abdomen. However, this pain can be controlled with painkillers. Drains are taken after an average of 1–3 days, non-melting stitches on the skin are removed after 1–3 weeks. There is no need to remove fusible stitches applied as hidden stitches from the subcutaneous. The most feared complication of tummy tuck surgeries is embol. In cases where necessary to be protected from this, blood thinners are given and varicose socks are applied to the legs. Despite all this, embolism can develop. If you or your family have a history of embolism, it must be noted. The most important of the mechanisms that make up the embolism is the long-lasting inactivity. For this reason, it would be appropriate to move your legs in the bed until you are allowed to get up, to move your hip frequently and not lie in the same position. It is useful to massage your legs and calves from time to time. You will be helped when you are allowed to get up for the first time. It is not uncommon at all that you feel dizziness and bad when getting up for the first time. To prevent this, it is comfortable to sit by the bedside for a long time on your first takeoff and get up looking across. Likewise, when you stand up in the first days, it would not be right to walk upright and stretch. It is useful to bend slightly due to the tension in your abdomen. The first two days after the surgery are the period in which the body is edematous. During this period, the body collects water, movements become difficult. Usually, from the third day, edema begins to decrease, movements become easier. The time you will stay in the hospital after the operation is 2-3 nights. After you are allowed to go home, you are expected to spend the first week at home rest.Care should be taken about smoking in the first week after the surgery. It should not be forgotten that smoking has a negative effect on the wound healing process. From the second week after the surgery, you are allowed to gradually return to your social life. However, it is expected that you will not do heavy work for six weeks. You are usually allowed to take half showers in the first week without wetting your surgery site. From the second week, a full shower can be taken. You are not allowed to enter the pool and sea before the fourth week. Sauna, solarium, steam bath, sunbath and heavy sports are inconvenient for six weeks after surgery. The surgical incision may be itchy and very obvious, especially in the first months after the surgery (3-4 months). Over time, especially after the sixth month, the surgical scar is expected to discolor and the itching will decrease. This process continues for up to two years. Even at the end of two years, the surgical scar remains in the surgery area, even if it is thin in skin color. During the operation plan, this permit is tried to remain within the kilot and bikini line.In the postoperative period, drowsiness occurs, especially in the area under the belly, which lasts long and sometimes permanent. These are expected to get better over time.
It would be inappropriate for us to tell you how to manage your medication’s. That should only be done by your prescribing or treating physicians.Check with them if you have questions.Best,Mats Hagstrom, MD.
