In my practice, the anesthesiologist would be able to follow all the needed information with you under general anesthesia with nail polish on.

In my practice there is no issue with having any type of nail polish on during surgery. Proper vital signs are attainable with our equipment. However, I would ask your physician of choice to ensure there will be no issues.

Nail gel can impact the ability of the oxygen saturation recorder to read properly when it is placed upon your finger, so it may be a good idea to delay its use until after your procedure.

I would not think clear polish would hurt anything as far as being able to get a good read of vital signs. Gel or shellac however would need to be avoided because it can make the nails too thick to read through.
