How come every doctor uses Mentor and Allergan but not Motiva Plus?

Hello and thank you for the question!  Motiva implants are manufactured in Costa Rica and are just now beginning the process of FDA approval for use in the United States. For patient safety, health and well being, you should only have FDA approved medical deices implanted. Be sure you consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to learn more!

HelloMentor and Allergan have been in the "marketplace" longer than other companies. They have lots of styles in gel and saline, round and shaped, smooth and textured. Newer companies don't tend to have the same level of options.

Dear Mylove,    When you decide to have breasts augmentation surgery, you should not choose the type of implants or the tools for surgery, but rather, choose a quality  surgeon, in order  to avoid bad result and need for getting  corrective surgery.     Always , consult with experienced board certified plastic surgeons who operate in accredited surgery center for your safety. Most importantly, check the before and after pictures in the photo gallery, to make sure that they are numerous, consistent and attractive with nice cleavage, perky, symmetrical and natural looking.    The goal of surgery is to increase your confidence, your self esteem and your sense of femininity. The type of implants is irrelevant for those goals. Mentor, Allergan, and the new Ideal breast implants are FDA approved breast implants with a wonderful track record in the US.  There are many other implants, including Motiva Plus, that are used outside the US.  I'm sure that many of those implants are great, but US plastic surgeons are familiar with Ideal, Mentor, and Allergan and they know about the wonderful history of safety and reliability of those implants and that is why they use them.

The answer is simple - Motiva is not yet FDA approved.  We can only use implants from the FDA approved manufacturers - Mentor, Allergan and Sientra.

Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  There are only three breast implant companies approved for use in the US - Allergan, Mentor, and Sientra.  Motive has not applied an application in the US and as such can not be used by physicians.  Hope this helps.

Mentor and Allergan implants are the 'gold standard' with more long term safety data than any of the other brands. Motiva is popular outside north america, but would still be considered 'off-brand'. At the moment Motiva implants are not FDA approved which means they would not be considered a safe option (at least in the US) at this point. Its best to stick with Mentor, Allergan or Sientra until the FDA has a chance to review the Motiva implants better. Hope that helps! 

Dear "Mylove",Thanks for the question.  When deciding on surgery, you are choosing the surgeon, not your belief on which implant is best.  While you certainly have a say in the matter, it is ultimately up to your surgeon's experience and comfort level.  I only use Mentor or Allergan implants.  They have been in production much longer than I have been in practice and are both FDA approved.  I will not use a new implant unless it is FDA approved and tested on the market for some time.  I would not want to be the first 1000 patients trying out a new implant.Best of luck with your search.Dr T

In the US we only have access to Mentor, Allergan, Sientra and I believe Ideal implants.  Motiva is not one of them. Perhaps they did not seek FDA approval yet?
