How far back does an extended chin implant or prejowl implant go?

The extended chin implant is quite versatile and provides added fullness to the chin and the immediate sides of the chin -- kind of like a wrap-around bumper on a car.  If there is a depression in the pre-jowl area, then an extended implant with a bulge in the pre-jowl area can be used to fill in that depression.These implants are made of silicone rubber and can be custom trimmed during surgery to fill just the required need -- and no more.I have done many of these implants and they are quite successful.Elliot Jacobs, MD, FACSNew York City

It is always possible to reshape and define the jawline with augmentation as far back as you and the surgeon decide. Don't just rely on 'store bought/standard' implants since a true approach is to contour the entire jawline artistically with product 'added' at surgery. 

 Hi, I have performed many Chin Augmentations using chin implants for over 30 years.  Non smiling photos of your face from the front and side would help in the evaluation.  A weak chin creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy and the lower face look short that de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a double chin.  Chin augmentation using a chin implant will add projection to the chin creating harmony and balance to the lower face. 





 I have found that placement of a silastic chin implant, through a small curved incision under the chin (also allows excess skin removal) to be very safe, quick, highly effective and far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty.  I perform chin implant surgery in 30 minutes or less, often using a local anesthetic alone.  The extended anatomical implant is the one that I use and it does taper along the sides of the chin as it meets the jaw line.  If your mandibular angles are weak, these are best addressed with augmentation using a dermal filler which has none of the unwanted side effects that a mandibular bar or jaw implants has.
