By now your procedure is likely done and you are well on your way to a smooth recovery.  The key in a procedure like this done with local anesthesia is slow infiltration of the numbing medicine.  Some degree of pain is inevitable, so a little oral sedation prior to the procedure is a nice touch as well.  For my patients who simply prefer to feel "no pain" with the procedure, IV sedation is a great option as well.  Hope you are doing well.  It will be interesting to hear your story as it evolves so I hope you will keep us all updated.  Cheers.

Yes, depending on the extent of the mini tummy tuck you might experience having an injection with local anaesthesia. Sedation would make the experience more bearable and less painful but it will increase your time spent within the facility. 

hi jlo1103.  Sedation is a good idea so that you are relaxed and more comfortable.  You will need to have someone drive you to and from your procedure, stay with you at home for at least 24 hours depending upon what meds they use.  You are correct that individual pain tolerances vary-notwithstanding, sedation is beneficial.  Good luck,

If there is no muscle tightening planned or umbilical float, then a mini under local anesthesia might be a very reasonable choice. With oral pre-medication, the injections should be very tolerable.

As long as the anaesthetic injections are given slowly and carefully, they really are quite tolerable. There can be some odd feelings and a degree of discomfort, but they should not be overly painful. If you have significant worries, you can discuss sedation, but you will likely need to ensure that you arrive fasted for at least 6-hours prior to the procedureGood luck tomorrow

I suspect the experience would be a little more pleasant with some oral medication to take the edge off.  You will want someone to drive you home if you have any sedatives in your system. 
The numbing shots do sting but the discomfort is short-lived. Getting a patient numb in a comfortable fashion can certainly take time, but it is time well spent.

I do this procedure in my office with oral sedation and use small canulae to injection the numbing solution. Most patients do very well with the process.

The local anesthesia is administered via injection. After the anesthesia begins working you may feel pressure but shouldn't feel anything sharp. You may ask for sedation if available to make the procedure more tolerable. It shouldn't significantly prolong your time in recovery.

Patient comfort is an extremely important part of any cosmetic procedure.  A skilled surgeon should be able to achieve a comfortable mini-tummy tuck with local anesthetic.  Your surgeon may choose to use a tumescent technique, as is used in liposuction, in order to achieve a comfortable procedure.  This will reduce the amount of local anesthetic required for the procedure and make it safer.
If you experience anxiety during the procedure, a sedative will help and this may take the form of a pill 30-minutes before the procedure.  Any extended period of observation due to the administration of sedation during surgery is well worth the trade-off for a more comfortable experience.
