Hello, I am having a rhinoplasty in January. The surgeon suggested to also have a chin implant in order to balance my side profile. I like my chin from the front but on the profile side it is recessed. Could I modify the side profile without affecting the front? Do you think (looking at my pictures) that I could benefit from a chin implant too? Thanks for your feedback!
Answer: Chin implant versus genioplasty Thank you for your question and sharing your photographs. A chin augmentation intervention is likely to balance the profile whether it is an implant or a genioplasty. On the three-quarter view appearance of the chin viewed from your right hand side, the chin projection appears relatively good. I am guessing that viewed from your left-hand side the chin appears smaller. In practice, you rarely see the true profile few but you see a lot of the front and three-quarter views. On the front view, there is a moderate amount of deviation of the chin point to the left. This is not corrected suitably by an implant. However a chin advancement with displacement to the right (centralising genioplasty) can deliver the type of improvement that you seem to aim for with maintaining the width of the chin from the front view but also balancing the three-quarter views and profile. I am not a maxillofacial surgeon and therefore I cannot get into deeper details on this point but I would suggest rather than proceed directly to a chin implant to have a consultation with a maxillofacial surgeon and get better evaluation of your options. 3D imaging and computer simulations can also help to understand better your facial configuration at a variety of angles as well as the options for change and the impact of such changes.

Answer: I recommend either a chin implant or fillers Hello and thank you for your question. A formal evaluation would be needed to determine the best treatment. There are both surgical and non-surgical options to correct this. We can place a chin implant, which is a quick surgical procedure. Many of my patients try to avoid surgery, however, so for those patients, we also offer non-surgical chin augmentation with injectable fillers. Fillers like Radiesse, Voluma, BellaFill, and Sculptra are injected into the area to improve the overall appearance of the lower face and balance the jaw and lip harmony. We use cannula injections to meticulously contour and project the chin, soften the chin along the jawline, and improve the chin crease. Implants are a great option once you are ready for permanent chin enhancement. I suggest getting a consultation with an experienced cosmetic dermatologist and facial sculpting expert, or an aesthetic facial plastic surgeon like Dr. Donald Groves; we are both located right here in Los Angeles. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Chin implant Based on your pictures, it looks like you would be a good candidate from a chin implant. It’s essential to have a detailed discussion with your plastic surgeon to express your concerns and clarify your aesthetic goals. They can provide a professional assessment and recommend the most suitable approach to achieve the desired results while maintaining harmony between your front and side profiles. Your surgeon will consider your individual anatomy and preferences when making recommendations for these procedures. I hope this helps, best of luck !
