I have a chin implant from 35 years ago. IT appears that there are "wings" on each side. One side is detached . I can see it and feel it. The implant was put in through my mouth. Is this difficult to replace after 35 years?
Answer: Chin implant replacement Yes, chin implants can be replaced. It is usually done through an oral approach. It is possible that the silicone implant has fractured and that is where the wings are coming from. It can be safely removed and another implant can be placed. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Chin implant removal I would recommend that you start with a CT to evaluate the exact position of the implant. The degree of difficulty of removal of an implant depends on the type of material. Silicone can be removed much more easily than Medpore. In addition, you will likely need a replacement implant or genioplasty in order to prevent chin ptosis.

Answer: Replacement Hi! You can definitely get your chin implant replaced. All chin implants generally have "wings" - my guess is that they are now visible/prominent because you have been losing volume to your jawbone/mandible with age and so now the implant stands out more. It should not be too difficult to replace it since usually it just slides in and out. Good luck!

Answer: Chin implant replacement after 35 years It is certainly possible to remove the old implant and insert a new chin implant. This time we would take the old one out and put the new one in through a small incision underneath your chin, and not go through the mouth again. This procedure can be performed under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure which would take about 30 minutes.
