I have an overbite (and maybe an overjet) which may be contributing to an upper lip protrusion. I also have very prominent nasolabial folds and a midface volume deficiency (maybe caused by significant weight loss, but it's been over a year). I'm concerned about the long term impact/longevity of an implant but the cost and complexity of a Genioplasty also worries me. Would either of these procedures improve the appearance of my jaw? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: More information needed Your photographs are limited, we need a true lateral photograph. A chin implant will not do anything for your nasal labial folds. It will add more prominence to the intra-mandible only. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Hard to tell It is too difficult to tell about chin augmentation based on your photos alone - we would need side views. Nonetheless, the chin implants generally don't have any major long term issues and are relatively safe. Genioplasty, yes more permanent, but has be done perfectly to avoid causing dents and sometimes does not necessarily age the best.

Answer: Implant or genioplasty? Unfortunately, it is impossible to give you meaningful advise based on these photos. It would be in your best interest to make an in-person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon with expertise in chin augmentation. Good luck

Answer: Need side photo We really need a side photo and to see the appearance of your teeth in occlusion. However, from your description and limited photos it is possible that a chin and/or cheek implants could be beneficial. Both are customizable and relatively inexpensive, plus they can be done in the office and last your entire life.

Answer: Will a chin implant help improve the appearance of my jaw Placement of a chin implant can be performed under local anesthesia to cosmetically augment your chin mostly forward, but you will also get some lateral width as well. This procedure usually takes about 30 minutes, and will not affect the way your teeth fit together. A Genioplasty is performed by an oral surgeon when your teeth are significantly out of alignment
