This was my 5th rhinoplasty following a rhinoplasty which made no difference and then 3 very botched revisions by the same (well known) surgeon. I approached a few other well know specialists at the same time as Mr Ion who all refused to even consider taking me on as a case. Mr Ion was patient and understanding throughout the whole process. He is clearly willing to take on the most complex cases which speaks volumes about his skill and character. The operation was extremely difficult due to my thin skin. It involved a rib graft and fascia. It has now been 4 years since the operation and I can honestly say it has changed my life. I no longer think about my nose. It is a very natural result which fits with my face. I am truly grateful to Mr Ion as I have been able to move forward with my life happy and confident.
I had revision rhinoplasty (with a rib graft) and a chin implant with Dr Lucian Ion, and I’m so incredibly happy with my results. Honestly, the whole experience was just perfect. Dr Ion is amazing. He’s kind, patient, and reassuring. I had so many questions and worries, especially because revision rhinoplasty is complicated and lots of surgeons I spoke to didn’t want to do it. They said it was too risky! But Dr Ion never hesitated . He’s really confident with difficult cases, and it shows. My results look completely natural, exactly like we’d discussed, and actually much better than I imagined. People didn’t realise I’d had surgery - even my close family members just commented that I looked really well, without suspecting any cosmetic procedures.. Initially, after surgery, I was worried about minor asymmetries, but Dr Ion reassured me they’d settle, and they did, exactly as promised. Within a few weeks, I was already socialising comfortably, and no one noticed anything unusual. Any residual asymmetries (which were only noticeable to me) resolved over the next few months. Also, one of the reasons I chose Dr Ion was because he’s a member of The Rhinoplasty Society, which is the most prestigious rhinoplasty group globally. They only accept surgeons who deal with the most complex cases and achieve excellent results. He’s actually one of the very few members based in London, which really shows how skilled he is. I really think he’s one of the best plastic surgeons out there, especially for tricky cases like mine, and I absolutely recommend him!!
My rhinoplasty with Dr. Ion has had such a profound impact on me, it's hard to put into words. I had always wanted to change my nose, but the idea of surgery was daunting. I worried I wouldn’t like the result and lacked the courage to take the leap. I spent hours researching, reading reviews, and consulting with different surgeons. But when I met Dr. Ion, I immediately felt confident in his expertise and knew I was in good hands. His calm, reassuring demeanor, attentiveness, and thorough explanations made me feel completely at ease—there was no rush, no pressure, just honest, thoughtful advice. The surgery itself went smoothly, and the aftercare was exceptional. Although I developed a small infection, which cleared up quickly with antibiotics, Dr. Ion was consistently there, checking on me and making sure everything was fine. As the swelling subsided and I saw the new shape of my nose, I was overwhelmed with joy. It felt like the nose I was always meant to have. To this day, I smile every time I look at myself in the mirror. The changes have gone far beyond just physical appearance. My confidence, self-esteem, and sense of self-worth have grown exponentially. It’s truly been a transformative experience. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Ion
I had considered embarking on this procedure for over a decade. I had always been too scared and although had reached out to several specialists for consultations, not felt I had met a specialist that I trusted. Mr Ion is an exceptional surgeon, highly professional and most crucially through his significant experience knows exactly how to reassure and help you at extremely vulnerable moments.
Dr Ion is an incredibly personable and talented man. He was the first surgeon I met with and after our meeting, I knew that I did not need to look any further. He is passionate about his work, and as such would have exceeded in anything he chose to do. Dr Ion continues to be interested in tracking my progress and we have met for checkups several times during the first year. He is always on time and I enjoy going to see him. I couldn't be happier with my decision and the results.
Why would anyone fly from Beverly Hills, "the plastic surgery capital of the world" to London UK to have plastic surgery you may ask? Because Lucian Ion is simply the best! From the moment you meet Lucian Ion, you know that you are in safe hands. I first "met" Mr Ion in 2017 when I had a video consultation about my badly botched rhinoplasty. Doctors in the US didn't want to even attempt to try to fix it, goodness knows I searched, and having found others online in a similar situation, I was referred to him after he repaired and restored another with a badly botched nose. Noses are particularly tricky and he somehow managed to fix mine. The years rolled on and it became more and more apparent I needed a neck and lower face lift so off I went to London again and could not be happier. Mr Ion's attention to detail, his kindness and compassion are unmatched. We went over the game plan in tremendous detail and the date was set. The Weymouth Street Hospital is walking distance from Mr Ion's office and it is where he performs surgery. I spent a night in the hospital where I was given round the clock care. Because Mr Ion is so incredibly gentle with his patients, I didn't feel any pain at all after the surgery, just a mild headache through the night which was quickly taken care of by the amazing staff at the hospital. Shout-out to Suzie-joon and Arden, my nurses during my stay, they were wonderful. Mr Ion visited me the following morning and after he left I decided to go for a walk around town. Two days later I was on a train seated opposite two ladies who could not keep their curiosity to themselves and asked if I had done something to my face. The white bandage around my face gave me away. I told them in detail that I had a deep plane lower face and neck-lift just two days before and they were astonished that I was out and about and clearly not suffering. They asked for his contact information. One week later I had the stitches removed. There was very little bruising under my chin, just a little puffiness under my cheek-bones which dissipated over the next three or four days. I was ready to return to the US and work. The cost of the surgery, which included Mr Ion's fee, the operating room, anesthesia and an overnight stay in the hospital was around $24,000. Regardless of cost, I wouldn't even consider letting anyone else touch my face. Updated on 2 May 2024: I forgot to mention in my previous review why I decided to have a deep plane face and necklift. Over the years my face shape changed from heart shaped/oval to almost rectangular. Jowls had started to appear on either side of my chin and pulled down the corners of my mouth, one side more so than the other. I saw women around town with very obviously pulled faces and really didn't want that look, however I didn't like the saggy look of my own face. I am now five weeks post-op and feeling terrific. Mr Ion took into account that one side of my face needed more work than the other, probably because I sleep on that side, and lifted everything so gently that my face does not look pulled, the corners of my mouth are back to where they should be and all is perfectly balanced. Regarding the scars. I have extremely fine scars in front of and behind my ears, also very tiny ones at my temples. They are fading daily and last night I went out with my hair up, fluffed the sides a little and they were not noticeable. My friends and family think I look fabulous and one of them has already booked her consultation with Mr Ion with the idea of doing the surgery in June or July. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart Lucian Ion, once again you have worked your magic. Updated on 3 May 2024: Another thing I forgot to mention is that my neck was absolutely awful. It hung down like a turkey neck and I couldn't wear my hair up anymore. I also want to mention that the price of my surgery would have been at least double if not triple the price in Beverly Hills.
I had a Rhinoplasty with Mr Ion, and I’m so in love!! He really supports you before and after the surgery. Highly recommend! Mr Ion has made sure I was all ok before and after the surgery and makes you feel at ease. Amazing results, it was everything I wanted and more!
I've wanted to write a review for so long. But I'm back in the middle of life, so I don't have much time. But it is important to me, to help others, which are in a desparate situation- Like I was in for three years of my life. The surgery with Ion is now two years ago( bit more). I am from germany, next to Stuttgart, where a very known surgeon destroyed my nose, my whole face after an accident with a pupil, who jumped right into my face and my nose. I was 50 years old, mother of two and happy. After surgery my face was significantly changed, basically my nose and it’s features were deleted. Once fine and upturned, it was now broad and amorphous. I could no longer breathe and after a few months I could no longer work (school management), I needed a psychotherapist to be able to get through every day. Along the way I learned that I was not alone in this situation. It is a highly traumatic experience to no longer recognize your face. My husband was helpless, most of friends too. My children suffered bc. i was not the same. When no one in Germany was willing or able to restore my face, and I was traveling all over Europe unsuccessfully to find a nose expert, I found out about Lucian Ion in London. He already helped another victim of this Prof. G in Germany. So I started to improve my English and set off. My daughter and I decided to go with him straight away because he was so lovable and personable. I also knew many results and patients. I had done a lot of research. A lot! I had all the terribly pointless techniques on my nose. Tongue-in-Groove as just one example. But he did it! And how he did it! I.want to let pictures speak for themselves. I want to say to all of you: please never give up! Life is too beautiful for an untalented nose surgeon to destroy! Lucian Ion gave me back the life I thought I had lost. Thank you dear Lucian Ion. And for you all the best in the New Year and forever! Thank you! Updated on 5 Jan 2024: Addendum: unfortunately the photos are mixed up. Please read, I have always written something about it. I posted photos before the broken nose, after the break (slightly changed), surgery in Stuttgart (severely changed nose) and finally after surgery in London. The correct order in the menu navigation seems to be a problem. Many thanks again to LET123, Road to Revision Rhino! .Your reviews have given me strength.
I wanted to share my experience through this review as I conducted extensive research before going ahead with my second Rhinoplasty and I hope my story might assist someone in making a crucial decision in their life, just as it did for me. Please bear with me as this will be a detailed account, but I believe it's essential to provide all the details I wish I had when I was conducting my research. This was my second Rhinoplasty, and I must express my satisfaction with Dr. Ion, who has been nothing short of exceptional. He's a true perfectionist and an artist. When you are trying to change something on your face this is exactly what you need to find in a Dr who is going to change parts of your face! The impact on my life, particularly in terms of confidence and the aesthetic transformation of my nose, has been a resounding 10/10. Considering the magnitude of this decision, I deliberated extensively before proceeding with my second procedure, and I am immensely grateful that I chose Dr. Ion. To provide context, my initial rhinoplasty in 2018 with Mr. Alwyn D'Souza left me with a larger nose and unresolved straightness issues that worsened over time, negatively affecting my confidence. In my pursuit of a solution, I contacted Mr. Waterhouse and Mr. Basim Matti, both of whom were recommended. Mr. Waterhouse couldn't operate on my nose after sending in some pictures to see if he could help and suggested Mr. Amir Sadri. However, my experience with Mr. Sadri was very poor and left me feeling terrified and doomed and that my nose was VERY complicated and should be left alone and that he highly recommended not to operate on it as it might make is WORSE!!! He said I was searching for perfection and insisted I see a psychologist, and even then after seeing the psycologist there was no guarantee of the procedure ( it was going to cost me £250 for this "test") It made me feel l like I was INSANE. I was frustrated after seeing him twice and him still not giving me an answer I felt he was wasting my time. I think perhaps looking back he wasn't experienced enough and that's why he couldn't give me a yes or no on whether he could operate on me. Some good did come out of seeing Dr. Sadri as he mentioned Dr. Ion as one of the best in London for revision rhinoplasty, along with Charles East. I researched Dr. Ion, finding a mix of positive and negative reviews. However I decided to book a consultation with Dr. Ion and he was extrememly reassuring. He was calm, listened to what I wanted, demonstrated extensive knowledge, and we designed my perfect nose together on his computer. I sort of tested him and said is my nose impossible to operate on and he shrugged and said no which sort of made me feel at ease as he showed me many many pictures of clients he has done in that year so felt he was extrememly experienced. He explained using the rib cartilage was a necessity for achieving the desired results which before I didnt feel comfortable about but then relised i needed it to be right and would do whatever it takes to make this right. I also consulted with Basim Matti who was the other Dr who was recommended to me previously. My meeting with Basim Matti raised red flags. His dated office, the proposal to use ear cartilage (contrary to widely recommended rib cartilage - ear is alot more bendy and not as strong), outdated 2014 photos of rhinoplasty procedures and nothing since, and a request to consult with my previous surgeon, Mr. Alwyn, left me uneasy. I left thinking straight away I was going to be using Dr Ion through and through and Mr Basim Mati I didn't want to go anywhere near my nose. I booked my op for the 31st October ( Halloween lol! I was in 2 minds - this is either going to save me and my confidence or this is going to turn me into a scary monster who I would hate to look at in the mirror even more that I did before!!) I went to see Dr Ion one more time to go through everything and was feeling calm and had faith he could help me. Went in at 7am to the Weymouth hospital the staff were all amazing! Kept me calm! Dr Ion came into see me before I went down to the theatre and went through all that we have spoken about before and what we were trying to achieve. When I woke up Dr Ion was there in the recovery room and told me all went well I then went back to my room to recover and my partner came to pick me up and I was out of the hospital by 4.30pm. My Rib hurt a bit getting up out of bed and putting clothes and getting into the car but was manageable. We got home and ordered a Lebanese and for the FIRST time in years I could actually taste the lamb! I dont know what happened in the op but it brought my taste buds back! I went to sleep feeling really good and I could breath in and out of the packs in my nose. There was alot of bleeding but I just put a pad under my nose and taped it so I didn't have to keep wiping my nose which was making it sore. Pain was minimal. The next day...WOW I felt like I had been hit by a bus. I was taking paracetamol and ibuprofen as didn't want to take the stronger medication. The swelling was pretty minimal at this point. Bit uncomfortable and my nose started to feel a bit more blocked. Day 3 - Packing day removal. By this day I was ready to breath and was feeling aggravated!! Bruising ( I took anica btw the day of the opp and the days following) started to come out. My partner left to go on a trip so was left alone and in a way was probably the best thing as just wanted to be left alone. My nose was blocked and I was just aggravated. I remember thinking omg i just want these packs out as I cant breath! Rosie the nurse was amazing and took the packs out and then the stitches. I was In a bit of pain and the stitches hurt a little but wow it was a relief to have the packing out. Still a bit blocked but this passes. Felt a million times better. Please be aware - having an op ( I forgot about this the first time I had rhinoplasty) as I wasnt taking the hard core pain killers there are times where you think to yourself I am really not okay and just hurt and I had this like home sick feeling even though I was at home. I think you are feeling really venerable as your body is in shock - no one really talks about this in any other review I have read and I have read millions - but this feeling does pass! I didnt want to take the strong meds as my partner snapped his ACL and had a horrible time coming off the pain killers. I didnt leave the house for the rest of the week apart from taking my dog out for a walk. I am not a gamer... but we have an Xbox in the house which has never been used - however I played on this most of the time which really helped distract me! When I did go outside I just walked around with a mask as I didnt want anyone to see what I had done and this was perfect as meant I could get out and have some fresh air and move my body which i think helps alot along with a healthy diet! Day 7- Cast off.... Rosie again was amazing! The Cast came off and I was like here we gooo...!! And as soon as I looked in the mirror I burst into tears as I think I was just so emotional and worried after all DR Sadri has said in scaring me that so many things with my nose could go wrong... it looked AMAZING! I said to Rosie how grateful I was all that they had done we had a giggle at me crying! I was SO swollen though and looked like an avatar for the 1st 4 days. This does go down. I was icing like MAD and taping my nose at night which really helps. Also my face was so swollen and so was told to lean on my hang on my face to bring the swelling down.. this helped alot!! I am writing this 6 weeks after my operation as I my follow up this morning with Dr Ion and I will keep you update but I just cannot thank Dr Ion enough. I have been meaning to write a review and time has just gone by so quickly but I hope this helps someone make the decision as its a difficult one putting all your trust into someone you dont know! Dr Ion truly is skilled and I am so glad I went with my gut and trusted him! He cares so much and this has changed my life and confidence already and we are only 6 weeks in. I know you see these reviews and think yeah yeah but honestly If you are considering a rhinoplasty surgeon I would recommended Dr Ion through and through! Also I forgot to mention - I actually contacted one of Dr Ions patients who left a review and found her via instagram and messaged her, I think if it wasn't for her and her speaking to me I would be still pondering. So thank you! You know who you are!!! XX I will keep you updated! Good luck if you are considering getting Rhinoplasty - Please please do your research!! and Thank you AGAIN Dr ION!!!
I will like to be as informative as possible so sorry for the lopng post. Technique: open tip rhinoplasty with Rib Cartilage Graft + PDS plates Pix 1 and 2 : 8 dpo (Left : clinical pictures -cropped and eyes obscured- Right: 8 dpo - no make up and all bruises on show) Pix 3: is the swelling BEFORE it reached its peak! (i could not really open my eyes after then so did not make a morbid reportage) BASELINE I was referred to mr Ion by the surgeon who performed my hairline lowering. 9 years after primary my nose was short, over-scooped and pinched, undefined and over-rotated tip. I Was self conscious of my profile but ok with front view. various doctors had confirmed that my cartilage would have kept wearing off. I did not hate my nose and I was not botched, but felt uncomfortable with how underprojected my tip was. I still wanted a slight slope and an upturned tip but more defined and projected. My front was good to me and it was the part that scared me the most ( only because I had not thought about face swelling !) I had sent morphs I had made mself to mr Ion prior to the meeting to give an idea of what I did not like about my nose. FEEDBACK (so far) ON MR. ION: So far I can only say good things about mr Ion. I met many surgeons in life, but mr Ion really is special (in a good way) . He is not the kind of surgeon who lives on social media or posts about this or that celebrity visiting the clinic, nor is he self- inflated . He does not advertise. you won’t see a gallery of endless pix and patients selfies on his IG but if you go for consultation, his clinical portfolio is vaste. Mr Ion was the only surgeon I felt I could trust with my nose. He really listens, to understand what’s important to you and your desired outcome. I’d say he wants to see things through your eyes, in this sense. For example, for our last consultation a month before surgery, I brought a sort of power point presentation (lol) which explained with images what I wanted vs what I did not want for my nose . He went through each single point I had included in it with me ( it was like 4 pages lol) So far, he’s done everything he said he would. Super knowledgeable about noses, he has an artistic eye for nostrils and the interplay between the areas of the nose. He has a good visual of how light reflects on nasal features so that these are enhanced indirectly . He has given me 3-4 consultations (50ish minutes each) - never rushed anything - and he's the only surgeon who produced a front morph and a 3/4 morph. He really does show care and has a sense of how challenging this surgery might be from an emotional standpoint. At day 2 or 3, after I reached out via email when my anxiety about swelling reached a peak, he called me after working hours to reassure me and to explain what I could do to manage the swelling on my eyes before cast off. I really very much appreciated that he removed my cast himself. The journey so far: Day 1-4: massive swelling, could barely open my eyes and was purple. It was a lot worse than primary rhinoplasty bruising and swelling Day 4-9 (cast off at day 7): swelling went from eyes to the lower face. difficult days. swollen nose + swollen face lost face contour so the whole lower face + new nose looked super super weird. I did have moments of panic and these were (so far) the most difficult days. CAST OFF : I liked my nose at cast off for around 5 minutes, then it swelled up a lot ( I knew this would happen ). Nevertheless I can see the potential in my swollen nose. Day 7 and 8 were challenging because I saw my face felt like distorted because of the swelling that made it more difficult to move my mouth Also I could not move my upper lip at all in the central part ( but now at day 11 this is better) Day 10-11: Swelling (face) has started to subside. Today (day 11) is the first day I feel a bit better. my nose is still very swollen and will be for a while but I like the structure I can see, and i hope it will fit my face. Pix are from 3 days ago ( I am swollen both in my nose and face and have bruises so self conscious posting a fulll front face). I had just put some cream on my columella and was too lazy to retake a pix without it SUMMARY ( early stages of healing) Good so far: - mr Ion - Dr Aubrey Bristow ( the anaesthetising doctor - he was great in explaining everything and did so in a very enjoyable way) - Laura ( patient coordinator) is always available if you need anything - scar already incospicuous 11 days post op - softer philtrum because he projected the tip and this changed the angle lip/tip. (First rhinoplasty had flattened my philtrum a lot. This happened soon after my primary) Bad points: - wild swelling … way wilder than first rhinoplasty. - face swelling + nose swelling really made me see my face distorted in the first days ( including 2 days after cast off) I had really underestimated the swelling Points IMO worth thinking about: - revision rhinoplasty is a long journey in which physical, psychological, and emotional aspects are very much intertwined. At this time, I am finding that the sensorial experience of taking care of post-op nose ( massaging it, taping it etc) helps familiarise with it. I feel this is very important to keep continuity with the changes that occur during the very long healing, especially if your primary nose was not botched. - I personally find it fascinating that a piece of of my ribs (cartilage) is now in my nose but I have a taste for morbid details. Updated on 5 Nov 2023: Quick update ( 16 dpo) I have been taping around 20-22 hourse per day ( I preferred taping more rather than less and it made/makes me feel safer that people will be less clumsy in public spaces if I have my nose taped) and today was the first day I went outside without tape . facial swelling is better Nasal swelling is also a bit better compared to 9 days ago. I had a taping-related sign on my skin couple of days ago, and mr Ion advised how to manage the taping so that the pressure gets dispersed a bit ( by making small cuts perpendicular to the edge of the tape. These cuts have to face downwards toward the tip). It did help very much indeed. At the moment I can only note that I feel very tired most of the time ( but I just finished with antibiotics and hopefully this will get better), also my skin and hair quite stressed/dry by both anaesthesia and antibiotics. I guess I am just in the "Purgatory" stage, that is, the unique timeframe in surgical recovery between the initial/acute recovery phase and the final result. This is a 'limbo' time where you progress towards the more stable result but still don't 100% love exactly where you're at, and you just have to get through it. PS no the term 'Purgatory stage' is not my invention, I borrowed it, but it conveys the feeling quite well IMO Updated on 8 Nov 2023: (Forgot to attach pictures with a similar light in previous update) "Purgatory" stage: the timeframe in surgical recovery between the initial/acute recovery phase and the final result- a 'limbo' time where you progress towards the more stable result but still don't 100% love exactly where you're at, and you just have to get through it. Hello, and thank you for your inquiry. One important consideration is whether you have already tried using botulinum toxin to raise your eyebrows. This can be a good starting point, depending on your natural eyebrow shape and how much lift you may need. Often, if the brow is lifted even slightly, the upper eyelid skin will appear more taut. If you’re looking for a more substantial and longer-lasting result, an endoscopic brow lift (often referred to as an endoscopic facelift when addressing the forehead and brow) may be a suitable alternative. The incisions are placed within the hair-bearing scalp, which tends not to develop hypertrophic scars, although the exact reason for this is not entirely clear. In a younger patient, an endoscopic approach typically creates enough lift in the tail of the brow to noticeably improve the appearance of the upper eyelids.
Hello, and thank you for your question. If you’re planning to have a lower face and neck lift in the future but want to improve your appearance in the meantime, it’s important to understand how certain non-surgical options might affect later procedures. Energy-based treatments can create a modest amount of skin tightening, but they also produce deeper scarring in the tissues. This scarring can complicate surgery down the road, depending on the extent of the changes. For platysmal bands, botulinum toxin may be a good choice—especially if the banding is due to active muscles—because it relaxes the muscles and can also help refine the jawline. An added benefit is that botulinum toxin does not produce deep scarring.
Hello, and thank you for your question. In my experience, neither technique is a one-size-fits-all solution for crepey, wrinkly skin. When it comes to managing reduced skin elasticity, the Deep Plane facelift seems to offer a slight advantage. This approach, especially when executed with a more vertical vector and an extended temple scar along the hairline, can discreetly enhance the mid-face and lower face appearance. That said, the deep plane facelift tends to require less fat transfer or ancillary treatments to achieve significant and lasting improvement. It also exerts a stronger impact on the contour of the neck. In many cases, combining a facelift with a neck lift can yield the most comprehensive rejuvenation for both the lower face and neck.
Thank you for your question. The key factor in deciding between SMAS plication and SMAS-ectomy is whether facial volume should be preserved or reduced. In individuals with a fuller facial contour, SMAS-ectomy offers the advantage of subtly slimming the face and enhancing the V-shaped definition of the lower face. Conversely, for those with a lower BMI and naturally thinner facial structure, SMAS plication is preferable, as it maintains facial volume and ensures softer contours. In terms of longevity, there is unlikely to be a significant difference between the two techniques.
Thank you for your question and for sharing your photographs. The treatment plan proposed by your surgeon appears very sensible. If the procedure focuses on conservative refinements, it is unlikely that you would perceive the outcome as over-corrected. The computer simulations also support this approach, indicating a natural and balanced result. With subtle changes of this nature, most people find that their peers and colleagues do not notice a significant difference, even when comparing before-and-after photographs.
