Restylane Defyne or Refyne for marionette lines?

Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne are two fillers designed to give your laugh lines a pick me up. They are both formulated to act like your body's own naturally occurring Hyluronic Acid. Hello and thank you for your question. Refyne is best for mild to moderate lines and volume loss in the lower face. Defyne is for moderate to deep lines and volume loss. A combination approach with filler and Botox may help it last longer. Botox in the DAO ( depressor anguli oris ) muscle reduces the downward pull on the corners of the mouth.

Great question! The Rheological (Physical) properties of all fillers on the market has been extensively studied.  When injecting fillers around the mouth, as you can imagine, it is very important that the filler used is very elastic due to the extreme motion that occurs in this region of the face compared to, say, the cheek.  The most elastic filler product on the market is Restylane Refyne, and not far behind it is Restylane Defyne.  The choice of which one to use depends on the depth and degree of volume loss. They are both wonderful options due to their flexibility.  Perlane is now called Restylane Lyft as it was remarketed and launched with the latter name.  It is the stiffest product with the least flexibility of any filler on the market, and it would be a poor choice used around the mouth, but is excellent for midface/cheek projection.  Please see your trusted provider for an in-person consultation so that he or she can choose the best product for your goals.

Both belong to the Restylane family of hylaronic acid injectable dermal fillers.  Restylane Refyne was approved for mid-to-deep injection into the facial tissue for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.  Restylane Defyne is approved for the correction of moderate to severe deep facial facial wrinkles and folds. 
Both of these gel fillers is made with a flexible hyaluronic acid filler which uses XpresHAn Technology – creating gels that offer a wide range of flexibility and support.  This gel moves and molds with your natural movement and then returns to its natural shape – so it is perfect for the areas of the face where there is a lot of movement such as the nasolabial folds, marionette lines and laugh lines around the mouth. They provide excellent results for animated areas of the face where we want to maintain natural movements and expressions.
Both of these fillers last up to 12 months compared to regular Restylane which lasts approximately 6-9 months.

Hi and thank you for your question! It is hard to tell without seeing you, but in general I see better results with Restylane Refyne for marionette lines. Restylane Defyne is better for deeper injections but we do have other fillers that can be used here as well. In cases when a patient expressed concerns with the longevity of their filler results, I always recommend doing another follow up to compare current pictures with baseline ones to be able to objectively spot the points of improvement and areas in need of further work. I think they are runny.  I suspect that the Restylane folks made these to simulate juvederm products. However in an effort to make smooth filler, they tend not to hold where they have been placed.  Restylane Lyft (use to be called Perlane) and Restylane are much better choices.

I think it depends on depth. For deeper ones, I prefer to use Defyne. Optimal correction is placement in the dermis and below the dermis. Correction of the corner of the mouth and prejowl sulcus needs to be done for best results as well. These are great fillers for around the mouth because of their flexibility and look more natural than other fillers in this area.
