Is it possible for your body to reject Restylane? Scared I'll get the same results.

Question

I had restylene silk about a year ago around my mouth to lessen lines. It looked great for about two days. After that time, it was as if I threw $1300 in the trash. I'm told the Restylene Defyn may be a better option but so scared I'll get the same results. Is it possible that some fillers just don't work for some people? Thank you so much for your time.

Thank you for sharing your question. Silk is a VERY thin product best served to fill in superficial lines around the lips and what you likely experienced is the swelling that accompanies any injection placement.  Refyne and Defyne are thicker products which should supply an improved look and duration of results over silk.  Hope this helps.

Hi, different facial fillers are suited to different parts of the face to provide proper volume and lift. Most popular fillers are hyaluronic acid but still possess different structural properties that make them each unique. It is certainly possible that your filler either dissolved quicker or you may have needed more volume after the swelling resolved.

It is hard to give a good opinion about your question without a picture. Sometimes lasers or Infini are needed to improve lines around the mouth. However, in many cases, superficially place filler using small needles can also help. The improvement should last 9 months approximately. Silk tends to be degraded quickly by the body. I wouldn't be scared of further injections.

What you were initially seeing probably represented post procedure swelling. Restylane Silk is small particle hyaluronic acid filler which is great for filling in perioral fine lines and adding subtle hydration/volume to the lips. However, in younger patients or those looking for more lip volume, it may not be enough. In these cases I may use Restylane Defyne, Restylane-L or Juvederm Ultra.

Restylane silk is a small molecule hyaluronic acid based filler. Depending on the amount of correction that is necessary, restylane silk may not provide the level of improvement that you are seeking. You may have mistaken the initial swelling from your previous treatment for correction. Restylane defyne also provides subtle improvement. You may want to consider a filler from the juvederm family of fillers for greater correction.
