I’m not happy with my lip filler. There’s bumps. What do you guys think? I got 1 cc of Restylane Defyne (Photo)

Without  knowledge of your physicians technique, It is difficult to evaluate your concern, I strongly advise you to seek a consultation with your prior injector.

Lumps on lips after filler injections are rare and unusual with the wonderful fillers we have this days. If you did nothing at all they would eventually go away.  If they are still present in a month and they bother you, I would suggest going back to your injector and asking to have some Hyluronidase or Vitrase injected into the lumps.The positive part of your situation is that you feel the lumps but no one can see them and your lips look great.  You can always add a little more to the bottom lip and use the rest of the syringe elsewhere.

Thank you so much for the for the great photos.  We usually try to do 1/3  to 2/3 (or 1 to 1.618) ratio of the upper lip to lower lip.  I recommend that if it has been less than 2 weeks let the filler settle as Restylane causes a lot of swelling but that resolves within the first 24-48 hours.  If you are not happy with the lumpiness or feel that the ratio or upper to lower lip is off then consider hyaluronidase to dissolve the unwanted filler.  I would recommend seeing your board certified treating dermatologist or plastic surgeon for further consultation.

I appreciate your dilemma. The result indeed looks good. I strongly suspect this is swelling. Refyne and Defyne do not lump very much. I suggest you check with your injector again in 2 to 3 weeks. You can always have it dissolved, but you will likely also lose all your injected volume.Good luck. Dr. ALDO

Hi and thank you for your question! Since it already has been two weeks since the injection, it is time to do a follow up with your injector for an accurate objective assessment. If not happy with the results, hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane Defyne can be easily adjusted or dissolved with enzyme injection. I hope it helps and good luck!   

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs. I agree that if your goals were to maintain a larger lower lip, it was not achieved.  You may see some improvement over the next few days as the residual swelling dissipates and the filler softens but ultimately you may require additional material either placed into your lower lip or dissolving agent placed into your upper to address volume and lumps.  I would speak with your injector to have the best recommendations made. 

Restylane Refyne and Defyne are intended to behave a bit more like the Juvederm products in my opinion. As such they ignore the immense value of a high G prime and low tan delta filler such as the regular Restylane.  The Defyne product is runny.  Not as runny as Belotero but still it drifts.  If one places product that at the vermillion boarder, it will drift into the upper lip.  While you do not have a "lip shelf," overall the upper lip is too full.  In addition you have lumps.  The lower lip should always be stronger that the upper lip.  Your treatment does not accomplish this.  Hyalurnonidase can be used to let out this volume.  Shaping with the enzyme is challenging and it is better to get the volume right the first time.  It is improbable that this injector can fix this issue.  You require sculpting.

Most bruising and swelling usually resolves within 2 weeks from injection. However, sometimes it can last for up to 3 weeks. I would recommend waiting 1 more week to make sure all of the swelling has gone down before treating again. 
At that point I would encourage you to follow up with your health care provider. Hyaluronidase may be used if the bumps cannot be massaged out. You may need more filler to reach your desired outcome or you may need to dissolve some that was already injected. 

The upper lip should never be bigger than the lower lip. In certain ethnicities, equal size of upper and lower lip can look natural. Also, the upper lip should project more than the lower lip and in your case it does not. Lumps can sometimes be massaged out. If they bother you, hyaluronidase can dissolve them. Refyne is usually my choice for the lips and is a less viscous filler.
