Refyne and Defyne are fillers that are rheologically designed to compete with the Allergen Hylacross products in the Juvederm family. That is to say they are "smoother" like the juvederm products. Contrast this to the high G prime, low tan delta fillers like Restylane and Lift. Injectors have a tough time with these type of fillers because they need to be sculpted into shape once placed. Refyne and Defyne are more runny or "smoother." What they are not is they are not more "fibrous." It is unclear if these rheological differences contribute to meaningful differences in longevity. Hyaluronidase breaks down all of these products. The issue is dose of hyaluronidase. Most injectors managing complications due to these fillers do not use sufficient quantities of enzyme to get the job done. With a sufficiently high dose of enzyme, the filler will be removed with a single treatment. Generally the enzyme acts immediately but the full effect of the enzymatic breakdown takes a couple of days, possibly more if there has been trauma.
