How long until rib cartilage graft soreness starts to go away?

I just got a rhinoplasty with rib cartilage graft 2 days ago. I am still very sore, when will i start to feel normal again? Like, when will coughing and sneezing start to feel normal again? Thank you.

The pain after taking a rib graft usually takes a few days to start to feel better. About seven years ago, I change my technique to limit the pain and now there is seldom any reports of discomfort. I would advise you to discuss with your surgeon and find out what might be appropriate at this point. Taking ibuprofen would be helpful, if your surgeon is OK with that medication at this point.

Recovering from rhinoplasty is a healing process. If you had rib cartilage harvested, you may be sore in two locations. Depending on the technique your surgeon used, you may be sore for a week or longer than a month. I make an incision that is 3/4 of an inch long and I do not cut the muscle. That tight pocket maintains support and improves comfort. My patients are typically off of narcotic pain medications in 48 hours. Here are some tips.1. Take Tylenol (acetaminophen) on a schedule, don't for the pain.2. Start walking and deep breathing right away.3. Keep a "cough" pillow around. Hug it to support your rib when you need to cough.
