Dear Sabrina.J,I would recommend you see either an ENT doctor or plastic surgeon to examine your nose to make sure you do not have a nasal fracture. In the meantime, take OTC Advil/Motrin as directed to decrease the swelling. Hope this helps. Best regards,Nima Shemirani

I do not think your injury appears to be very severe based on your photograph. But the only way to have reassurance would be to have a surgeon familiar with nasal injuries and rhinoplasty examine your nose. Good luck.

Trauma to the nose can cause a displaced nasal fracture, a non-displaced nasal fracture, dislocation of the upper lateral cartilages from the nasal bones and a deviated nasal septum by fracturing of the septum itself. It's important to be evaluated by a rhinoplasty specialist to document  the extent of the injury with an examination of the internal and external portion of the nose along with x-rays. To prevent a re-occurrence of this type of event, would be wise to invest in a self-closing toilet lid!
