Is nostril asymmetry normal? (Photos)

Question

I have not done Any surgery and noticed my nostril are asymmetrical. I do pick my nose. Did that cause my nostrils to become asymmetrical? Is it normal for nostrils to be asymmetrical?

Every patient has an asymmetry, not just in the face, but also in the body. Most of the times the asymmetry is so little that is not an issue, and most of the people will not notice, if you check you will see also asymmetries on the size and position of the eye, cheeks, chin, etc. As the asymmetries occur in all the people, they can be considered as normal, unless is very noticeable.

Hello,Thanks for your question. Yes, nostril asymmetry is normal. 100% of humanity has facial asymmetry.  If you look in the mirror carefully you can see all the areas any person might as being asymmetric. In reality, your asymmetry is very minor. I wouldn't worry about it.Good luck,Dr. Shah

Nostril asymmetry, nose asymmetry, and facial asymmetry are extremely common and perfectly normal. Virtually everyone, if they look closely enough, we'll see asymmetries from the right side of the face to the left. In our imaging software at the office we can draw a vertical line down the center of a person's face and produce mirror images of each side. It's pretty amazing to see how the mirror image of each side of one's face is so different than what the person actually looks like.

It's normal for nostrils to be asymmetric. One can make them a little more symmetrical by performing alar rim reduction. This procedure does not take long. There is very little discomfort. Nostril asymmetry is the norm rather than the exception. If it is bothering you, then an exam in person and a discussion of a possible solution to improve it can be reviewed.

Hi.  Your nostrils are perfectly normal and actually quite symmetric.  85% of patients have significant facial asymmetry.  Frankly I have never met any of the 15% because almost everyone has asymmetric eyes and cheek bones and lips and jaw angle.  Usually one side of the face is more narrow and longer and the other side is shorter and wider.  Your nostrils are totally normal. Don't stare at them and don't focus on them.

Facial asymmetry is present in most people. Nostrils can be assymetric without any causation except being congenitally different from side to side. It is possible to have a deviated septum or post surgery assymetry if nostrils have been made different surgically. Your photos show minimal differences and there are apparently normal.
