Juvederm Voluma Plus injected too high on my cheeks, very hard and painful, normal? Will it smooth out over time? (Photos)

Hi @mimihirsch! Swelling and bruising after dermal fillers can occur. You can apply ice and cold compresses to the area. If you do experience increased pain or new symptoms, I would recommend contacting your injector. If you are unhappy with the results after 2 weeks, you can dissolve the product with Hylenex. It's too soon to tell what your final results will be. You will have swelling, for 1-2 weeks after your injections. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Since you just got injected, it is normal to have swelling. It usually goes down in a few hours/days. If you have pain and redness or if it feels hot after that, you should be seen by your injector to make sure you don’t have an infection. 

Thank you for sharing your question and photograph. If you only just had the treatment done you are likely seeing the effects of the Voluma and Ultra Plus products, combined with tissue swelling and bruising.  I know it is difficult to do but I would allow your results at least two weeks time to mature before considering any revision or dissolving the material.  You should see a softening of your cheek appearance, hopefully to a level that you and your injector had agreed upon.  Hang in there. 

Swelling is normal after Voluma.  It is most pronounced for the first few days, but can last a few weeks.  You can apply cool compresses after the procedure for comfort and to reduce swelling.  You may also experience bruising, which is temporary.  The pain you are describing does sound unusual, though.  I would advise you to call your physician to be checked, especially if you notice pain that is worsening, warmth or fever.

Do not manipulate the filler.  It can take about two weeks for the swelling to resolve; however, it should not be painful so you should return to your doctor now for assessment.

There may be some brusing and swelling initially after the Voluma injections. You can try applying some ice to the area but if the pain gets worse and not better, then I would recommend going back to see your physician. Otherwise, I would recommend waiting at least 2 weeks to see the result of the injections after the swelling has gone down before deciding if you would like any of it dissolved.

Swelling after Juvederm Voluma injection could be normal as a result of  the injection over the sites. I recommend you to wait a couple of weeks, do local massages and apply some ice. Hope this improves very soon... If not, dont hesitate to call for a follow up appointment with your board certified physician to discuss your concerns.
