What can be done about my forehead dent? No one seems to know what the solution is. (Photos)

When my forehead is relaxed, everything seems normal. When I raise my eyes brows or have an expression there is a noticeable dent right underneath my hairline. As far as I can remember, it’s been there forever. any suggestions on how to hide this?! Thank you.

Hello and thank you for your question.  When you are animating (or lifting your eyebrows) the muscle across your forehead is contracting.  The area where the muscle ends is where you are seeing the dent.  Botox can greatly help in reducing the appearance of the dent, as it is very commonly used to relax muscle movement in the forehead.  I suggest making an appointment to see an experienced injector who specializes in facial aesthetics.  Best of luck!

The fact that your problem worsens with animation seems to indicate that a neuromodulator like Botox would be beneficial. However, in the first photo which is relaxed, there appears to be an indentation as well, so an injectable  filler may be helpful.   Good luck

The forehead raising muscle that spans the whole forehead is called the frontalis muscle. While in the womb, the two sides of the face meet in the middle. In most people, this leads to the frontalis muscle being a single muscle that goes all the way across. Some people have a gap the whole way in the middle with 2 distinct muscles. For you, the muscle likely divides slightly at the top. When you raise your forehead, the muscle bulges (think of flexing your biceps) but at the top, there is no muscle there. To decrease the appearance of the area, you could have Botox (or xeomin or dysport) injected into your forehead to decrease the muscle action and prevent this "dent" from being visible. looks like you have some very strong and prominent forehead muscles.  The way your forehead muscles are oriented are such that there is gap on the top center portion where it seems you don't have very much muscle.  Thus when you contract your forehead muscle (the frontalis muscle) you are noticing it bulge everywhere except where there isn't much muscle.  To not get such a dent then, I would suggest Botox or Dysport which will help relax the muscle.  That way when you try to raise your brows, the muscle is less active and will not be able to bulge and thus show the indentation where the muscle is not present.

We would definitely use a neurotoxin such as Botox, Xeomin or Dysport to relax the very strong muscles on your forehead. The reason that we would go that route is because the dent is gone while your forehead is at rest. With several consecutive treatments your forehead muscles should soften and the dent reduced.

I think the dimple that you seen when you wrinkle your forehead is a result of muscle action. I would try some Botox first to see how it works before considering anything more invasive. Best wishes

It looks like you have a bit bigger gap between the bellies of the frontalis muscle than the average person.  This is totally normal so don't worry.  It is called a frontalis diastasis in medical terminology.  Think of it kinda like the separation of the stomach muscle that happens to women after pregnancy--except it is your forehead and thats just how those muscles formed on you.
The first thing to do is to relax that muscle with botox, xeomin or dysport.  That will soften and debulk the muscle so the gap is less noticible.  If that is not enough I would consider a little dermal filler in the area to revolumize the gap.  Be careful because you don't want too much filler so that it looks good at rest but looks like a bump when you raise your brows.  Find an injector whom you trust and has experience with treating this area.
