Is it possible under eye filler got into my upper eyelid causing ptosis/pink eye?

I received belotero in the tear trough and I had a bump very high near the corners of my left eye. A few days later eye felt heavy. That lasted about a week 1/2 . eventually went away n now about a month later I have the same feeling but now accompanied by symptoms of pink eye? Could this be because of the filler? I constantly feel like I need to shut my left eye. Dr. says it's allergic conjuctivitis, I think filler went were it wasn't suppose to or damage was done to my eye during injection.

Hello,In reading your description of where you felt the initial heaviness, we are wondering if you are referring to the "bump" being "high near the corners of the left eye."  Unlike the responses of other panel members, we believe you are referring to the lower eye area but too high from the point of injection.  If this is what you are referring to, then it is certainly plausible that the product was placed too superior and too medial (inward) which may be blocking or hindering the tear duct.  Another potential explanation is that the filler was placed in the eye muscle which may be causing a bump and/or redness to the inner lower eyelid.In any event, it is important that your practitioner, or another practitioner that is experienced with these treatments, use hyaluronidase (aka:  Vitrase) to dissolve the product.  Using this injectable medication will answer the question as to whether or not the product is causing this reaction.  In most cases, the effects of hyaluronidase is immediate.  If this does not improve your symptoms, then you and your physician can redirect your attention to other possibilities.Please see below link for more information on the use of Vitrase

Anything is possible but what you are describing has to be very rare. Recommend in person evaluation by an oculoplastic specialist. The problem could be something totally different.

It is highly unlikely that your pink eye was caused by filler. I would recommend following up with your injector.

A thin filler such as boletero which is often used in the tear trough area cannot migrate upwards. If a filler was placed too superficially in this area you can actually see a blue hue or sometimes tiny lumps and bumps. Both of these problems can be reversed if needed. I would, nonetheless, get a formal evaluation first by the doctor who placed the filler and then by an eye specialist.

It is difficult to determine what is happening based on your description. Generally speaking, Belotero is a very thin filler which is unlikely to cause significant tissue displacement or disruption to the structures around the eye. With all injections, infections and general inflammation can occur depending on your body's reaction. The filler can also be dissolved with hyaluronic acid if you no longer want it. It is best to have an evaluation with an ophthamologist if you are concerned about an eye injury.
