You should get specific guidelines from your own surgeon. I let must of my rhinoplasty patients ease into exercise at two weeks. Overly strenuous excercise can result in increased swelling which can be worrisome, but it would be only temporary.
The issue is that exercise which elevates your blood pressure and heart rate can raise your risk of post-operative bleeding. This can result in excessive swelling and bruising as well as prolonged recovery time. I hope this information is helpful for you.Stephen Weber MD, FACSDenver Facial Plastic Surgeon
Immediately after rhinoplasty rigorous exercises may lead to nose bleed and complications associated with it. After 4 week you may resume rigorous exercises, remember even then elevation in blood pressure due to activities and increase in salt intake may result in swelling.
Usually nose surgery or rhinoplasty is associated with much bruising, swelling, and inflammation. Elevation or blood pressure either through exercise or pain can increase nasal swelling and inflammation which in itself can result in buildup of more scar tissue! This can adversely affect your nose job outcome.
The increased blood pressure may increase bleeding risk soon after surgery.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
I would recommend waiting 4 weeks after rhinoplasty to start excercising. You will be swollen and and incisions inside your nose may bleed with exertion. Discuss with your surgeon.
It's important not to exercise for 2 weeks after rhinoplasty to prevent a nose bleed. There no restrictions for activities after 2 weeks, and exercise will not affect the healing process of your rhinoplasty.
Exercise should be be very limited after rhinoplasty surgery to help avoid any excess swelling and/or bleeding. I ask my patients not to exercise for the first three weeks post surgery and after that they can start back on a limited routine depending on the sport they are partaking in. Exercise which may injure your nose like basketball, boxing, soccer etc..should be avoided for a longer period of time. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
