This is really a tragic story. It sounds like your daughter is in good hands in the ER at the moment. She will need to be referred to a facial reconstructive surgeon. Depending upon the severity of this injury, healing might not require anything more than wound care and close observation. My heart goes out to you and your daughter, as this is one of the most tragic posts I have ever seen on RealSelf. In this culture of thinness and  beauty, we are often sending the wrong messages to young people who have poor self esteem and self- images. I'm sure with the right surgeon, they will help your daughter heal the best they can, but I am more concerned about her mental health. Please make sure she gets the help she needs to improve her emotional health and self-image.
