This question is regarding getting a brazilian buttlift in Tijuana, Mexico. I live in Los Angeles, California, 3 hrs away from Tijuana, Mexico. I would like to know how soon after having a brazilian buttlift will I be able to come back home by car? If I were to go home with my drain in at the time, how will I remove it? How many days after my surgery will I have to come back in to your office for a post op visit?
Answer: BBL recovery Each plastic surgeon has slightly different recovery protocol when it comes to a BBL procedure. Most recommend no sitting or lying down for at least two to four weeks. Most surgeons do not use drains. Most surgeons see their patients the day after surgery. I recommend asking your surgeon these questions directly since you will be having surgery out of the country and you will need to make certain travel arrangements.Best wishes,Dr.Bruno

Answer: International Plastic Surgery: Information Dear Ms. Faith0914,Thank you for your questions. While there are many excellent surgeons in other countries I would strongly advise to have your surgery within driving distance of your home.Why:1) pre and post operative appointments2) what happens if you have a intraoperative complication? What medical care is a available is available? Will your insurance cover the complication? Who pays if you required a air ambulance to be brought home?3)What if you need a revision?4)it's best not to fly for several weeks after surgery (pain, blood clots, etc).5)price should be only one of the factors... The savings could be more based on air flights, lodging, travel time, inconvenience especially if a revision would be needed.I would ask your chosen Plastic Surgeon your peri operative questions. In general there should be minimal pressure on your buttock and absolutely no pressure if you have painI suggest you make several appointments with experienced Plastic Surgeons who have in office financing options and who are not only Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery but in addition ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (denoting by membership as having met additional criteria and a focus on Cosmetic Plastic Surgery). My best wishes, Dr. R. Answer: BBL in Mexico Hi, thanks for your inquiry. I would say that you should not put pressure on your buttocks after your procedure for a period of one month, the only way to sit or even lay back is to have a donut pillow under you, that way you would put the pressure in your legs and not in your buttocks. It is not safe to drive by yourself after this procedure, you should come with someone to drive you home. Ask your surgeon for your post op care, he should answer all of your doubts and concerns. Good luck in your PS Journey. Respectfully,Dr. Jaime Campos-Leon

Answer: Going to Mexico for a BBL I'm reluctant to eat in restaurants when I go to Mexico let alone have elective surgical procedures.I would recommend you stay at home and have your procedure done locally.I've seen too many disastrous outcomes, from across the border including ones in caskets. Most plastic surgeons do not use drains for either liposuction or Brazilians.Do not count on any local plastic surgeons being enthusiastic about helping you to remove drains or take care of complications if you choose to go to Mexico for your procedure.there are talented plastic surgeons all over the world. Some countries have an overall high average standard of care while other countries have a great discrepancy of quality of care.I have known of doctors who have lost your license in the United States who then practice in Mexico. Some of them will even do consultations in San Diego or Los Angeles then do the surgeries in TJ because it is the only place still available for them. The doctor you're going to see maybe exceedingly talented and reputable.I'm only going by what I have seen during the last 20 years practicing in California.Save up a little bit more money and stay local.Best of luck wherever you go,Mats Hagstrom M.D.

Answer: Why going to Mexico? Why you would be going to Mexico when you can have your procedure done close to home? You should not have any drains with a BBL. Also, why would you want to risk having non-FDA materials possibly be mixed into your fat? Please explain your reasoning so that we can all learn from your decision making. Thank you.
