Am I confusing fat with swelling?

Question

It's been a month since I have my fat transfer from my lower abdominal and my lower flanks to my butt. Sadly, I think the butt in my fat have died. My lower ab, and my flanks are still numb. I don't really see too much of a difference from my lower abdominal. it's definitely a little flatter than before but not completely because I can still grab some fat.Am I confusing it with it being swollen still? Will my lower back cave in more so the arch will appear? Is 4 week too early to see results?

Your concern is common and it is too early to appreciate a result. Swelling after liposuction can persist for months and it is not uncommon to appear larger during this time. You should consult with your surgeon to make sure you are doing the appropriate post-operative therapies in order to maximize your result.

At only one month post operative you are early in the healing process. Allow yourself a full 3 months before final results. Numbness can last anywhere from weeks to several months. Regards,

Thank you for your picture and questions. Being only one month out from surgery, I think it is too early to be critical of your final result. The areas of liposuction should continue to improve with time. Unfortunately, the same may be true for the areas where the fat was grafted. As the fat grafts settle and the swelling improves, these areas will likely only decrease in size. So if you are unhappy with the areas where the fat was grafted, then you should discuss this with your plastic surgeon. Good luck!

Dear Dana05Yes it is too early to see final results. You should be able to appreciate a difference, but you still are swollen. It takes between 3-6 month to be free of swollen and get your skin shrink as part of the healing process. Be patient and wait a Little longer.Best wishes .
