When can I go swimming after BBL?

Question

I know I'm supposed to be wearing my compression garment for 3 months straight 24/7. But I have a family reunion to go to @ the end of the week and there will be a lot of swimming! I'm not expecting anything crazy that will work my body too much. Just floating and lounging.. I am 3 weeks post op! Would it be ok to go? I really want to!

In my practice I would recommend staying out of the water for 6 weeks post op. Why you ask? It is to prevent infection which can be extremely serious depending on how advanced the infection becomes. I am however very cautious when it comes to patient care and follow up as I want the best results and least complications as possible. I would consult with your surgeon and find out his or her specific recommendations for you. Thanks for sending in your question. Every surgeon's instructions will vary, so please check with your surgeon. I tell my patients to wait at least 4-6 weeks for any strenuous activities such as cardio.

Every surgeon has different protocols with respect to post op activities. I prefer my patients to wear the compression garment for 2 months at all times except for showers. After that I instruct them to wear them at night for another two months. I would ask your plastic surgeon and see if getting into a pool at three weeks would be acceptable.
