I’ve had 3 children, the first was via emergency c section. I’m at a healthy weight (125 lbs and I’m 5’2”) and my c section scar is barely noticeable. I do have the “c section pouch” above my scar and I’m wondering what kind of procedure I would need to remove it, if I could possibly do a more non-invasive procedure vs a full on surgical one.
Answer: C-Section Pouch Above Scar. What is Best Treatment Options for this problem depend on overall abdominal skin laxity and patient preference. Removal/revision of the scar with downward traction on the skin below the belly button will smooth out the lower abdomen, but the scar will need to be longer than the existing C-section scar. If there is a small amount of overlap without a lot of excess skin, the scar can be minimally longer than the C-section scar. If the problem is primarily excess skin in the lower abdomen, and the skin laxity above the belly button is acceptable to the patient, the procedure can be confined to the lower abdomen, with the scar of varying length depending on the amount of skin redundancy. If there is upper abdominal skin laxity and the patient wants this to be smoother as well, the procedure must free the skin above the belly button, which is a full abdominoplasty. Scar revision with removal of a moderate amount of skin is an office operating room procedure. An abdominoplasty is done in the operating room with general anesthesia.

Answer: Procedure recommendation Thank you for your question! Based on your photos, I recommend a tummy tuck. This procedure will completely remove the scar from the c-section, in addition to the excess skin and fat to your abdomen. I recommend consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon, who can create a personalized plan for you. Best of luck!

Answer: C-section pouch above scar Hi, thanks for your photos and your question. This type of fullness above the scar is common after some c-section incisions so you are definitely not alone. This is one reason why various “mommy makeover“ procedures exist. There are actually multiple options from as simple as an in-office scar revision to as comprehensive as a full tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). There are also hybrid procedures (at least 2) that are still surgical but less involved. It would be best for you to have an in-person assessment to determine what is right for you, based on your anatomy and your goals for outcome and recovery.

Answer: Wanting to get rid of the c-section pouch Thank you for posting your question. Typically a c-section pouch will not improve significantly with non-surgical treatments. A mini tummy tuck or full tummy tuck can effectively remove redundant skin in this region. If you seek a consult with a plastic surgeon they will be able to discuss the most appropriate options.

Answer: Tummy tuck candidate Dear SarahR1554, Based on your photos and pregnancy history, you look like a good candidate for a TT. Full tummy tuck should tighten your abdominal muscles and remove the excess skin. If you want to avoid fully tummy tuck, you can consider mini tummy tuck which will remove the skin above your incision but it won't affect area above the belly button. Liposuction will only remove fat leaving saggy skin. I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon because only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.
