Despite the risks I’m hoping to schedule a BBL in London. I’m from Glasgow, Scotland. I want to delay my flight back for as long as possible. I will need post operative care. I’ve had a quick search online and it's coming up with nothing.
Answer: Coming to London for BBL Dear ionazarax Thank you for your question. When travelling from far for any surgical operation you need to consider the following points when deciding where to stay and for how long: 1- Immediate or urgent post operative care: You need to be within 1 hour driving distance during the first 24 hours. BBL is day-case procedure, this means you don't need to stay in hospital overnight after the operation. However, you should be within reach if you have any emergency or needed an urgent check during the first 24 hours after surgery. For this, some patients chose to stay overnight in hospital, others prefer to stay nearby with friends or family. You should NOT spend the first 24 hours on your own, such as at hotel or empty accommodation. 2- Early post-operative follow-up: You should be able to return within 24 hours. This is the first check of the healing of wounds, skin, deep tissue and to check or treat any seroma, delayed healing, infection, early minor or major complications. This first check is planned to be done at 7-14 days but you should be able to attend earlier, within 24 hours, if needed to treat any complications. 3- Late post-operative care: This involves the long term follow-up and care. I do my routine checks at 6 weeks, 6 months and 12 months after surgery. These can be arranged with no urgency but you are expected to attend these in-person unless you have no issues or concerns. Your surgeon can advice you on the option that best suits you. Video consultations gives you an easy access to speak directly with surgeons to take their professional advice.

Answer: Do plastic surgery specific recovery houses exist in the UK? Hello, thank you for your question. I recommend that you discuss this with your board certified plastic surgeon in the UK. His/her office should have a list of recovery houses you can research as the best option for you.

Answer: Recovery process Dear ionazarax, your plastic surgeon will have the best information regarding closest recovery houses. Every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon. Answer: Traveling for surgery and postoperative care I have no idea if there are recovery houses in London. My best guess is that there are no specific recovery houses but I’m guessing some of the top plastic surgeons probably have nurses they hire to help patients after surgery for those who don’t have the support they need. The correct way to do this is to consult with plastic surgeons and during the consultations and assessment is made, the procedure and recovery are reviewed in detail so that Everything is lined up for the procedure. This is the purpose of a consultation. I suggest having several.Generally speaking I steer people away from traveling for elective cosmetic procedures. People don’t appreciate the importance of in person consultations, the complications and revisions actually do happen and the importance of in person follow up care. Of course it’s possible to travel for all the visits and I would encourage people to do that if they’re planning on traveling for the procedure. If local resources are clearly lacking for a certain procedure Then traveling makes sense. Traveling smaller distances or at least having travel arrangements that can be done for postoperative care should be considered. Each plastic surgeon will have their own arrangements for postoperative care. Some providers may leave this completely up to patients and others may have abundant resources available. The recovery homes of developing nations with patients describing possessions being stolen and stacking patients three to a room without anyone with medical background taken care of them does not seem like the way to have a surgical procedure.Find the right plastic surgeon and everything falls into place.Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
