Following huge weight loss I require a 360 abdominoplasty. I have a very flat saggy bottom and was hoping to have fat transfer to my buttocks at the same time but unfortunately it's now banned in UK. Will fat transfer to hip areas only help to give more shape to my flat buttock?

Answer: Fat transfer in weight loss patient My experience has been that weight-loss patients don’t make particularly good liposuction or fat transfer patients. At least not until the majority of skin laxity has been dealt with properly. Loose skin contribute significantly to body contour. The amount of available host tissue to support the graft often shrink down because the skin has been stretched out. This makes the true thickness of fat in the buttocks very thin which may be insufficient to give a great result. In addition to this skin laxity contributes more to contour than fat distribution.Fat transfer to the hips will give it volume in that area only. Technically speaking adding volume to one area will make the adjacent areas proportionately smaller.Without pictures or an examination we can’t speak specifically if this may be a procedure for you or not. I suggest having multiple in person consultations with experienced board-certified plastic surgeon. For weight loss patients I suggest focusing first on skin procedures as the procedures that will give you the greatest benefit.Best, Mats Hagstrom,MD
