I'm an 18 year old teen and I think my jaw looks recessed. Moreover from one side my jaw looks bigger than the other side. So do I have a recessed jaw? Thanks.
Answer: How recessed is my jaw? Hello Louis Purple,Thanks for your question. From this side view, you may have a very mildly recessed jaw. There will be normal jaw position and size asymmetries from side to side. Lateral facial xrays known as cephalograms can be taken to evaluate bony relationships.Injectable filler or chin implant placement can be used to harmonize this mild recession to the rest of your face.I would recommend that you consult with a specialist in facial cosmetic surgery to better understand your options.Good luck,Dr. Shah

Answer: Recessed Jaw Dear Louis: Hi there. A “strong” and well-defined jaw and chin have traditionally been attractive physical traits. As such, some patients present with concerns about a weak or recessed chin. This is a bit difficult to describe, but please try to draw a vertical line straight down from the lower lip. A “strong” jaw and chin comes close to this line. A weak chin is significantly posterior (behind) the line.A more aesthetic chin may be achieved by placement of a chin implant. Interestingly, a balanced chin improves overall facial appearance and may actually influence nasal projection. For example, a weak chin may increase the severity of an overprojected nose. Facial filler may be another option.Good overall medical health, as well as realistic expectations, are necessary. It is also key to understand all aspects of the surgery and aftercare. A pleasing, balanced profile can be achieved by inserting an implant to augment a weak chin, resulting in improved facial harmony.Hope this is helpful. Best wishes. Dr. Shah

Answer: Recessed jaw Maybe slightly. Your head is pointing upward and should be down. The best way to find out is to take an X-ray. Please see a qualified surgeon

Answer: Recessed Jaw Thank you for your question and posting a photo to better help answer your question. In order to determine whether or not your chin position is complementary of your other features will require a simple facial analysis. During this I typically use a ruler to measure the mid face height, lower face height, nasal length, chin vertical, nasal projection and chin projection. A rule of thumb is that the lower facial height should be equal to or up to 3mm greater than the midface height. Your chin vertical should be equal to your nasal length as well. In my experience, a recessed chin can also cause your nose to appear larger than it actually is. A sliding genioplasty, to an experienced plastic surgeon, is a simple procedure that would improve your lower facial weakness by increasing projection and height. I think overall it would help balance out your face and provide you with the results you are seeking.
